At least 26 people were killed when a boat capsized in the Niger River in Kogi State, southern Nigeria.
Local sources reported that the accident occurred while the boat was carrying traders from Ibaji to a market in Ilushi, Edo State, when it capsized in the river. The death toll is expected to rise.
Boat capsizing incidents in Nigeria are common due to overloading, poor maintenance, and failure to adhere to safety regulations. A similar incident occurred in early September in Niger State, resulting in the deaths of at least 32 people.
