
Al Shamal booked their place in the Amir Cup quarter-finals with a hard-fought 2–1 victory over Qatar SC at Hamad bin Khalifa Stadium yesterday.
The breakthrough came early, as Algerian striker Baghdad Bounedjah fired Al Shamal ahead in the 12th minute. Qatar SC responded swiftly, drawing level in the 21st minute through Brazilian forward Yan Matheus.
With the contest finely balanced, Al Shamal regained the advantage in first-half stoppage time when a defensive mishap saw Ali Saoudi turn the ball into his own net in the 45+2 minute, sealing what proved to be the decisive goal. Al Shamal will now await the winner of the clash between Al Sadd SC and Al Markhiya SC, who meet today for a place in the last four.
In the second match of the day, Al Arabi defeated Al Shahania 2-0 at the at Abdullah bin Khalifa Stadium to enter the last eight stage of the tournament.
