Taijul, Murad spin Bangladesh to 2-0 Test sweep of Ireland

Hassan, al-Ansari and Atat emerge champions

The roar has returned once again to the Qatar Racing Club (QRC) drag strip with the launch of the opening round of the 2024-2025 Qatar Drag Racing Championship. The championship consists of five rounds and is held under the generous patronage of QRC Chairman Sheikh Khalid bin Hamad al-Thani. This first round witnessed the participation of a large group of drag racing champions from Qatar, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Bahrain who competed across eight categories—six for cars and two for bikes. The index categories for cars, contested over a quarter-mile distance and comprising three classes, saw fierce competition. In the INDEX 10.00 class, driver Ahmed Hassan claimed the title after defeating Ahmed Matar in the final race, while Ahmed al-Emadi took third place. In the INDEX 9.00 class, Mohammed al-Ansari secured the opening-round title after winning the final against Mohammed al-Khawari, who settled for second place, while Mohammed Idris finished third.The third class, INDEX 8.50, featured a final confrontation between Mustafa Atat and Fawaz al-Awadhi, with Atat emerging victorious to claim his first championship title, leaving al-Awadhi in second place. Salem al-Yemani completed the podium in third.The car categories contested over the eighth-mile were also three in number, the strongest of which was the Super Street class. Rashid al-Baloushi captured the title after defeating qualifying-leader Yousef al-Zeyani, who settled for second place, while Badr al-Sharshani took third. Following Rashid’s lead, his brother Saeed al-Baloushi won the INDEX 4.50 class by defeating Hassan Ashkanani in the final, with Basil Abbas taking third place. al-Baloushi family continued to dominate the eighth-mile categories as Zayed al-Baloushi and Saeed al-Baloushi met in the final of the INDEX 4.80 class; Zayed claimed the win while Saeed finished second, and third place went to Sayed Hussein Salman.Al-Ansari excels.The bike competitions saw the widest participation of the opening round, with more than fifty riders competing for the two titles. Abdullah al-Ansari won the INDEX 8.50 motorcycle class after reaching and winning the final against Shehab Bourabaa, while Hassan al-Mazdi finished third. Al-Ansari also reached the final of the Street Bike class, seeking a second title, but this time he settled for runner-up after losing the final race to Ahmed Karam, who claimed his first championship title. Khalid al-Falasi took third place. The second round will be held from Wednesday to Friday. Baghdad Bounedjah of Al Shamal goes for a ‘bicycle kick’ during the Qatar Stars League match against Al Shahaniya Sunday. A Mohamed al-Mannai brace saw Al Shamal beat Al Shahania 4-0 while Al Arabi continued their winning streak humbling Qatar SC 5-1 in the Qatar Stars League (QSL) Sunday.The results meant that Al Shamal remain second in the standings with 21 points to their credit while Al Arabi moved into sixth with 16 points.Qatar SC slipped to fifth with 17 points and Al Shahania at the bottom in twelfth with 7 points. Al Gharafa are at the top with 25 points.At the Al Shamal Stadium, Al Mannai’s two quick-fire goals (61st and 66th minutes) were preceded by Omar Ali’s (12th minute) and Baghdad Bounedjah’s (40th minute) as the hosts completely dominated the game, forcing Al Shahania to defend for most part of the high-intensity match. Eze treble fuels Arsenal’s derby rout of Spurs

(Reuters) Eberechi Eze scored a majestic hat-trick for Arsenal as they trounced north London rivals Tottenham Hotspur 4-1 to open up a commanding six-point lead at the top of the Premier League Sunday.For 36 minutes the derby was a cagey contest with Tottenham frustrating Mikel Arteta’s side, but the hosts struck three times in 10 minutes either side of halftime.Leandro Trossard broke the deadlock from close range before Eze, the player Arsenal snatched in a summer transfer tussle with Tottenham, rifled in Arsenal’s second after 41 minutes.The second half was only seconds old when Eze again found space on the edge of the area to dispatch another shot inside the post and put his side in complete control.Tottenham got a lifeline out of the blue in stunning fashion in the 55th minute when Richarlison lobbed Arsenal keeper David Raya from near the centre circle.The visitors were more of a threat in the second half but Arsenal never really looked troubled and Eze completed his hat-trick in the 76th minute with another clinical finish. Arsenal, unbeaten in nine league games, have 29 points from 12 games, with second-placed Chelsea on 23.Tottenham’s first away league defeat of the season left them ninth on 18 points.Eze was at the centre of a summer transfer battle between the two north London clubs, with Arsenal scooping the former Crystal Palace forward from under the noses of their rivals.If that was not bad enough, the England international rubbed Tottenham’s noses in it Sunday as he lit up his first north London derby in scintillating fashion. Tottenham had been impressive away from home under new manager Thomas Frank with no defeats and only three goals conceded in the Premier League before Sunday.Frank set his side up conservatively for his first taste of the derby with containment not entertainment on his mind. Three central defenders, two holding midfielders and deep full backs restricted Arsenal to just one real chance in the opening half an hour with Eze’s scooped pass met on the volley by Declan Rice and Guglielmo Vicario saving well. But the breakthrough came soon after as, for once, Arsenal found space in the Tottenham area with Mikel Merino’s chipped pass controlled by Trossard with his back to goal.The Belgian took a touch and his shot on the turn nicked off Micky van de Ven to give Vicario no chance.Tottenham’s negative game plan was in tatters when Eze turned on the edge of the area and fired a low shot through a crowd and beyond Vicario.The visitors sent on attacking midfielder Xavi Simons at halftime but within seconds of the restart it was effectively all over as a contest as once again Eze was allowed too much time and he thrashed a shot past Vicario. Tottenham had not landed a glove on Arsenal for 55 minutes but scored with their first shot on target as Joao Palhinha won the ball just inside Arsenal’s half and Richarlison, spotting Raya off his line, floated a 45-metre shot into the net.But any hope of a comeback ended when Eze yet again found space and his finish was sublime.Earlier in the day, striker Morgan Rogers netted a double as Aston Villa fought back from a halftime deficit to beat Leeds United 2-1 away at Elland Road and move into the Premier League top four.Rogers steered home the equaliser three minutes into the second half and then curled in an expertly executed free kick in the 75th minute to ensure the come-from-behind victory that catapulted Villa up five places and onto 21 points.
