 From a small school field in a remote village to the grandest stage of international football, Abjol Ahmed’s journey has now become an inspiring reality. The Qatar-based expatriate has been selected as a volunteer for the FIFA World Cup 2026, marking a significant milestone in his life.Ahmed will serve as a hospitality volunteer at the iconic MetLife Stadium in the United States. The stadium is scheduled to host several key matches, including the final, making his role even more prestigious and memorable.This will be his second FIFA World Cup volunteering experience, having previously served successfully in an earlier edition of the tournament. His passion and long-standing commitment to volunteering have played a crucial role in reaching this remarkable stage.The upcoming World Cup will be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, featuring an expanded format with 48 teams. Out of nearly 1mn applicants worldwide, only around 65,000 volunteers have been selected — placing Abjol Ahmed among a highly competitive and elite group.His journey, however, was not easy. From the initial application and selection process to interviews, shift assignments, and visa procedures, he navigated a long and challenging path. After successfully completing all stages, he is now fully prepared for his new mission.If all goes as planned, Ahmed is expected to travel to the United States in the first week of June. His achievement is not only a personal success but also a proud moment for his home country.  Related Story Source link

 MES Indian School has recorded a commendable triumph at the recently concluded Tamil Literary Competition 2026, organised by Mahakavi Mandram, securing the highest number of prizes across multiple categories and bringing significant laurels to the institution.The prestigious event witnessed the participation of 126 students from various Indian schools across Qatar. Among them, 28 students from MES Indian School exhibited exceptional talent, determination, and academic excellence. Of these, an impressive 11 students emerged as prize winners.Among the achievers, Mohamed Arfan of Class 7 and Jeyasree of Class 3 secured first place in their respective categories. Ibrahim Jainullabdeen of Class 4 and Ankitha Sumesh Kumar of Class 5 earned second place honours, while Abijith Venkatesh of Class 6 secured third place.In the Class 8 category, Udaya Sumesh Kumar attained first place, followed by Karunya Krithi in second place and Hafsa Begam in third place.In the Class 9 category, Atheequr Rahman secured first place, with Kaviya Velmurugan and Rakshan Jeyabalan achieving second and third places respectively. Dr Hameeda Kadar, principal lauded the winners saying: “This outstanding accomplishment marks a significant milestone in the continued pursuit of excellence by MES Indian School and highlights the institution’s dedication to nurturing linguistic proficiency and cultural awareness among its students”.Jeyanthi Suresh, coordinator, along with Skylab Rani and Kirthika C, trained and mentored the participants toward this notable success.  Source link

‘Get well soon’ — these are the words that people who suffer with diabetes, heart disease or cancer hear too often. Not so if you suffer with obesity or overweight, where people closest to you will point the finger of blame, suggesting you should eat less, exercise more, and that you are just lazy. And yet, obesity, which affects over one billion people worldwide, and where in Qatar over 70% of the population are suffering with obesity and overweight, is as much a chronic disease as diabetes, heart disease and cancer. If anything, obesity is the root cause behind over 200 diseases, including physical, mental and mechanical (see references 1, 2, 3). Guidelines worldwide agree that obesity is a chronic, progressive and relapsing disease. Its impact on people will differ depending on the distribution and function of the fat involved. Our appetite is driven by our brain, which controls three aspects of eating — eating because you are hungry; emotional eating because you are feeling sad, or even eating for the pleasure of eating; and finally, the part of your brain that exercises control over emotional eating. Studies have shown that the link between the control part and the emotional part of eating is not working in people with obesity. Biology and brain have a big part to play in explaining the science behind obesity (see reference 4). Obesity has traditionally been assessed through measurement of the body mass index, which relates to height and weight, and where a measurement above or equal to 30 indicates obesity (see reference 5). New staging methods such as the Edmonton Obesity Staging take into consideration the complications of obesity as well. Like many other chronic diseases, obesity requires long-term management to ensure that the weight you lose stays off. Your body fights weight loss; if you thought losing those few kilograms was a challenge, then maintaining the weight loss is an even bigger challenge. Start your journey with your doctor — it's a partnership. Set short-, medium- and long-term goals, and not just for weight loss but more importantly for health gain. You will be part of a team who will give you dietary advice and encourage you to do regular physical activity. Your doctor might recommend using medication or other medical interventions. You may start to notice gradual and positive changes in your life, and the health improvements that you don't even see are as important. So remember, obesity is not simply due to an individual's choice or lack of willpower — it is a chronic disease. Seek treatment from a qualified healthcare professional and remember the focus is on long-term health gains.·The writer is Professor of Health Sciences, Medical Manager, Novo Nordisk, Qatar References:Prevalence of Obesity | World Obesity FederationWorld Obesity Atlas 2025Horn et al. Postgrad Med 2022;134:359–75.Lau D et al. Canadian Adult Obesity Clinical Practice Guide-lines: The Science of Obesity. Available from https://obesitycanada.ca/guidelines/science.Adult clinical practice guideline | Obesity Canada Source link

The third edition of the “Naqla” school chess project concluded with the participation of 102 students from 16 primary schools, highlighting growing interest in chess among young students in Qatar. The event was organised by the Qatar Chess Federation in co-operation with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education and the Ministry of Sports and Youth. The final tournament of the 2025–2026 edition was dedicated to primary schools and featured separate competitions for boys’ and girls’ government schools. Each category consisted of six rounds, attended by officials from both ministries and the federation. Hittin Model School for Boys dominated the boys’ individual competition, with Khalid al-Zeyara taking the first place, followed by Hamad al-Zeyara in second and Aser Hijab in third. In the girls’ individual category, Masa Ramadan of Al Markhiya Primary School for Girls secured first place, while her teammate Amira al-Moumeni came second. Aisha al-Fakhro of Al Bayan Primary School for Girls finished third. Hittin Model School for Boys also claimed the boys’ team title, ahead of Malik Bin Anas Model School for Boys in second place and Khalifa Model School for Boys in third. In the girls’ team standings, Al Markhiya Primary School for Girls won first place, followed by Maimouna Primary School for Girls in second and Al Bayan First Primary School for Girls in third. The winners were honoured by Dr Ibrahim bin Saleh al-Nuaimi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education; Maha Zayed Al-Qaqqaa al-Ruwaile, Assistant Undersecretary for Educational Affairs; and Mohammed al-Mudahka, president of the Qatar Chess Federation. In a press statement, al-Mudahka said the tournament, now in its third consecutive year, forms part of the federation’s broader “Chess in Schools” initiative aimed at developing and promoting the game across educational institutions. He noted that the project seeks to expand participation in local tournaments and increase the number of players registered and internationally rated by the International Chess Federation. He added that this year’s edition revealed several promising young talents who could strengthen Qatar’s chess scene in the future, while emphasising the federation’s plans to increase the number of participating schools in upcoming editions. Al-Mudahka also lauded the support provided by the Ministry of Sports and Youth and the Ministry of Education and Higher Education in helping expand the reach of chess in schools. The Qatar Chess Federation continues to organise educational and training programmes focused on the academic and developmental benefits of chess. These initiatives include teaching the fundamentals of the game, arbitration rules, and tournament organisation, as well as training teachers to supervise school chess teams and inter-school competitions.  Source link

OpenAI announced the official launch of the ChatGPT add-in for Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets spreadsheet models, making it available to all users globally after the end of the beta version.The company began testing the add-in in Excel last March, before making it available in Google Sheets during April, and the final version of the add-in allows the ChatGPT bot to be used directly within spreadsheets without having to leave the application.The ChatGPT add-in allows the creation of complete spreadsheets and data sets based on simple text commands. Users can create budget tracking, performance dashboards, and other forms simply by describing what is required, and ChatGPT automatically prepares the tables, formulas, and overall structure.The add-in also allows users to modify existing tables by sorting unsorted data, updating formulas, running new scenarios, and reformatting results by describing what they need in plain language instead of manually dealing with complex tools and formulas. Furthermore, the add-in enables users to ask direct questions about the spreadsheet content when they encounter unclear formulas or seemingly illogical results, pointing out that users can request an immediate explanation from ChatGPT about problems or errors.Professional users are expected to benefit most from these capabilities, especially those working with complex financial models and multi-page spreadsheets, but the feature is also aimed at ordinary users, as it makes creating personal budgets and tracking expenses much easier than starting from a blank page.The main advantage of adding ChatGPT is that it simplifies equation creation in Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets, one of the most prominent strengths of spreadsheet programs. Users can generate complex formulas through plain language, making it easier for both new and intermediate users to work with data and tables.OpenAI affirmed that the ChatGPT plugin within Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets is now available globally to all users via the Microsoft and Google Workspace stores.  Source link

No matter who you are or what kind of traveller you consider yourself to be, Hangzhou has a way of finding a place in your memory that lingers long after you leave. It is one of those rare cities where history does not sit behind glass in museums but flows gently through lakes, trees, bridges, and daily life. Often described as “paradise on earth,” Hangzhou, the capital of Zhejiang Province, feels less like a destination and more like a mood—calm, poetic, and quietly confident. It is a city that has mastered the balance between ancient China and a rapidly modernising world, where tea gardens and temples exist within reach of gleaming towers and global innovation hubs.My journey to this remarkable city began in Beijing, a place that carries the weight of dynasties, politics, and monumental architecture. Leaving the Chinese capital, I shifted from imperial grandeur to something more fluid and reflective. The transition itself became part of the story, as I made my way to Beijing South Railway Station, a vast and efficient gateway that mirrors China’s obsession with precision and scale. From there, I boarded Train G743, a high-speed service bound for Hangzhou East, and what unfolded over the next few hours felt like a quiet introduction to the country’s modern soul.The train itself was a reflection of contemporary China at its best – sleek, punctual, and remarkably smooth. As it departed the station, the cityscape of Beijing gradually gave way to open land, industrial corridors, farmland, and then distant clusters of urban development that appeared and disappeared like fleeting impressions. Covering more than 1,200 kilometres in roughly four and a half hours, the journey did not feel rushed; instead, it felt effortlessly efficient, almost like time had been compressed without losing comfort. There was a meditative quality to watching China pass by through large windows, entire provinces unfolding like chapters in a book, each with its own rhythm, colour, and identity.What struck me most was not just the speed, but the sense of connection it created. In a matter of hours, one moves from the political heart of the nation to one of its most aesthetically refined cities, as if the country itself is designed to be experienced in gradients rather than distances.Arriving at Hangzhou East Railway Station, the atmosphere subtly shifted. The air felt softer, the pace calmer, and even the light seemed to carry a different tone. Hangzhou does not overwhelm you; it eases you in. The city is famously anchored by West Lake, and it does not take long to understand why poets, painters, and emperors for centuries have tried to capture its essence. West Lake is not simply a body of water; it is a living landscape where every season reshapes its personality. Mist drifts across its surface in the early morning, willow branches lean gently toward the water as if listening to it, and distant pagodas rise like quiet witnesses to centuries of change.The most memorable way to experience West Lake is undeniably by boat. Stepping onto a traditional wooden vessel, there is an immediate sense of slowing down, as though the modern world has agreed to pause for a while. The boat glides without urgency, and the city begins to dissolve into reflections. The water carries stories, some real, some legendary, and every turn reveals a new frame that feels almost deliberately composed. The silhouette of Leifeng Pagoda rising against the sky, the gentle symmetry of causeways stretching into the distance, and the subtle mystery of islands appearing and disappearing through light mist all combine into a scene that feels less like sightseeing and more like entering a painting that is still being created.As the boat moves further, the city becomes a distant outline, and what remains is a sense of stillness that is increasingly rare in modern travel. By sunset, West Lake transforms again, as golden light spreads across its surface and the sky reflects in soft gradients of orange and blue. It is in these moments that the lake fully justifies its reputation as one of the most beautiful landscapes in China, not because it demands attention, but because it gently holds it.Beyond the lake, Hangzhou reveals another layer through its food culture, which is deeply rooted in Zhejiang cuisine. Dining here is an experience shaped by subtlety rather than intensity, where flavours are refined, balanced, and carefully composed. West Lake Fish in Vinegar Sauce is a local classic, presenting a delicate balance of sweet and sour that reflects the culinary philosophy of the region. Shrimp prepared with Longjing tea leaves brings together two of Hangzhou’s most iconic exports—its cuisine and its tea culture—resulting in a dish that feels both innovative and deeply traditional.Meals in Hangzhou often extend beyond food itself. They are accompanied by tea, particularly Longjing (Dragon Well) tea, which is cultivated in the hills surrounding the city. Sitting in a tea house overlooking greenery, the experience becomes less about consumption and more about pause. The act of drinking tea here is almost reflective, a reminder that simplicity can be profound when placed in the right setting.Yet Hangzhou is not only about tradition and nature. It is also one of China’s most dynamic modern cities, and this dual identity becomes especially visible in its urban spaces. Raffles City Hangzhou stands as a striking example of this transformation. Architecturally bold and visually contemporary, it represents the city’s global ambitions without abandoning its cultural roots. Inside, the environment shifts into a curated blend of luxury retail, lifestyle spaces, and international dining. Walking through its corridors, one moves from traditional Chinese aesthetics just a few streets away to a cosmopolitan world of fashion, design, and innovation. It is here that Hangzhou reveals its confidence—not by replacing its heritage, but by layering modern life over it in a seamless way.What makes Hangzhou truly remarkable is this constant dialogue between old and new. Ancient temples are never far from modern business districts, and serene lakes sit within reach of cutting-edge technology parks. It is a city that does not force you to choose between past and future; instead, it allows both to coexist naturally. YouTube officially launched its fully customized Multiview feature in the YouTube TV app, after it appeared experimentally with some users last week, and is now expanding to all channels with full control over the viewing experience.The new feature allows viewing multiple live streams at once, and with the new update, the user can now choose any live channels and view them divided on a single screen, instead of being limited to ready-made suggestions as before.The Multiview feature offers a new tool called 'multiview builder,' which allows for the creation of a fully customized viewing experience. This includes combining content from different categories, as well as providing suggested categories to facilitate selection, such as content recommended according to viewing habits, sports, news, shows, movies, and the rest of the live broadcasts.The feature imposes some limitations, as it only supports live content and does not allow the addition of other recorded or on-demand content within the Multiview.Google, the owner of YouTube, indicates that the feature reaches the majority of televisions, but a limited percentage of older devices, less than 5%, may not support the full customization experience. In this case, the user can still access a simplified version of the feature that focuses on major events.This move affirms Google's direction towards increasing viewing flexibility and providing a more personalized experience, especially with the growing demand for live content and its multiple sources, and the significant growth in the audience of the YouTube platform via television devices.  Source link

Apple Inc. is planning to integrate artificial intelligence (AI) into the iPhone’s camera app by adding a new Siri mode alongside existing photo and video options in its upcoming iOS 27 operating system, Bloomberg reported.According to the report, the company is expected to introduce a Siri mode in the camera app, in addition to traditional shooting modes such as Photo, Video, Portrait, and Panorama. When this mode is activated, the Apple Intelligence logo will appear on the capture button, indicating the readiness of AI features for immediate use while using the camera.The new Siri mode in the camera is based on the Visual Intelligence feature available in some iPhone versions. Apple will make it more accessible compared to the current mode, which requires pressing and holding the Camera Control button, a method that many users may not know.In contrast, Apple is working on updating its Visual Intelligence capabilities to offer additional practical functions, such as scanning nutritional labels on products to record nutritional data within the Health app, as well as adding contact information directly to the Contacts app by scanning business cards or printed information, and creating digital copies of event tickets and cards within the Wallet app after scanning them.The existing options in the Visual Intelligence feature are set to continue unchanged, recognizing objects such as plants and animals, adding events to the calendar, as well as sending visual information to services such as ChatGPT and Google’s image search engine.  Source link

Apple is preparing to unveil iOS 27, iPadOS 27 and macOS 27 updates with a clear focus on enhancing the artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities of its devices to provide a more advanced experience compared to its competitors.A recent report revealed that the company is developing new photo editing tools within the Photos app, under a dedicated section called Apple Intelligence Tools, and will offer three main features.The “Extend” feature allows users to expand the background of the photo with generative AI, “Enhance” automatically improves lighting, image quality, colors, and details, and “Reframe” shifts the perspective of a photo after it’s taken, primarily for Apple’s spatial photos.In parallel, Apple is working on launching a new version of its Siri voice assistant in the style of traditional chatbots such as ChatGPT and Gemini, relying on a cloud infrastructure supported by Google, with the company affirming that this will not affect the strict privacy standards it adopts, and intends to provide a standalone application for Siri for the first time.These anticipated improvements are expected to be announced at Apple’s WWDC 2026 developers conference in early June and will be available to users later this year. Snapchat announced a new feature that allows users to interact with AI Sponsored Snaps within the app’s chat interface.The app explained that a new feature called AI Sponsored Snaps will now appear as messages within the chat section, allowing users to ask questions and receive responses and recommendations from AI agents linked to brands.Snapchat added that the AI Sponsored Snaps feature represents a shift in in-app advertising, moving it from traditional display to an interactive, conversation-based model, at a time when the use of AI tools is witnessing increasing expansion on social media platforms.It pointed out that this step comes in light of the widespread use of the chat interface within the application, as it has been shown that more than 500 million users have interacted with the chatbot since its launch in 2023, and that about 85% of users regularly engage in chat, while more than 950 billion chats were sent during the first quarter of 2026.Snapchat expects this move to expand AI use within the app while further integrating it into the daily user experience.  Source link
