Iraq’s Presidency of Parliament has scheduled Saturday, April 11, as the date for the session to elect a president.
In this regard, the Presidency calls upon the leaders of political blocs to uphold their responsibilities in completing the constitutional milestones and forming a government capable of addressing the current challenges.
This announcement followed the Presidency of Parliament’s expanded meeting with the heads of parliamentary blocs on Monday to discuss several key files regarding the Parliament’s work, as well as finalizing the voting process for the Parliament’s standing committees.
The meeting also extensively discussed the presidential election, emphasizing the importance of moving forward to complete this constitutional requirement and ending the state of political deadlock, in light of the security and economic conditions the country is currently facing.
