Outreach Qatar (OQ), a community initiative to provide completely free support to children with special needs and their parents, celebrated 79th Independence Day of India, with the theme ‘Mera Bharat, Mera Gourav – My India, My Pride’.
Indian ambassador Vipul was the chief guest. Children performed the national anthems of Qatar and India. They tied braided tri-colour bands they prepared along with the volunteers, onto the wrists of all guests and attendees.
A memento was presented to Navaneetha Chinnakannan, who is bidding farewell to Qatar, to appreciate her voluntary support to OQ students. K Lingesh, an OQ student who is entering the Book of Kalam as the first and youngest autistic veena player to perform a one-hour non-stop recital across multiple music genres, was also honoured.
A special gift of a map of India covered with pictures of OQ students, was gifted to all students after the first copy was presented to the envoy.
OQ students who presented various performances included Mehreen Ayisha, Misha Fathima, Nathania Lela Vipin, Aswin Ganesh, Liana Marium, Mohnish Charan, Lingesh, Naythan Vipin Roy, Lokanath Jayaprakash, Brendon, Eshan Milan Pramod, Mohammad Izhan Hasan, Savannah Maria, Joanna Elisha, Manasvi, Sayyid Yousuf, Rishik Shivashankar Pillai, Steve Anish Regi, Jiya Anish Regi, Arth Khator, Jennah Maria, Prathika Prakash, Aisha Rayyan, Mahanth Vidhun, and Joshua Vijwal Sequeira.
OQ president Sameer Moosa and young volunteer Kriesha Sharma spoke. Management committee member Lakshmi Chockalingam welcomed the gathering and co-ordinated the event. OQ committee member Rama Selvam proposed
a vote of thanks.
