Jordan on Tuesday endorsed the joint statement issued by the State of Qatar, the Arab Republic of Egypt, and the Republic of Turkiye, in their capacity as mediators in efforts to secure a ceasefire and preserve stability in Gaza, condemning Israel’s continued violations of the Gaza ceasefire agreement.In a statement, Jordan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates condemned the Israeli violations in Gaza, including attacks on healthcare facilities and the killing of innocent civilians, particularly women and children.Foreign Ministry spokesperson Fuad Al Majali said the violations constitute a flagrant breach of international law and international humanitarian law. He stressed the need to halt the Israeli attacks, ensure the sustained and unhindered delivery of adequate humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip, and guarantee full protection for civilians, medical facilities, and humanitarian personnel.Al Majali also called on the international community to uphold its responsibilities by pressing Israel to fulfill its obligations under international law and ensure the implementation of all provisions of the US President’s Gaza plan, in order to preserve efforts to stabilize Gaza, achieve a comprehensive de-escalation, secure a permanent ceasefire, and end the humanitarian catastrophe in the Strip.  Source link

Qatar SC are continuing their preparations for the new season following a productive training camp in Murcia, Spain, which started on July 15 and ended on July 31. It was part of the team’s preparatory programme for the new season that will also see them in action in Gulf competition.The team underwent training sessions in the Spanish city focusing on tactical, technical and physical aspects, and also integration of new players into the squad under the coaching staff led by Marquez Lopez.During the camp, Qatar SC played four friendly matches. They beat Futbol Jobs side 5-0 and drew with Johor FC of Malaysia 2-2 and Spanish side Club Costa City 0-0. The Kings, however, lost to another Spanish club UCAM Murcia 0-3. The warm-up matches helped the Qatari side fine-tune their match readiness ahead of a long and challenging season.The last seasn's Qatar Stars League saw Qatar SC finish in sixth place with 32 points (nine wins, five draws and eight losses). They scored 34 goals and conceded 32. Brazilian striker Joao Pedro top-scored for them with 15 goals the same as Akram Afif of Al Sadd to be the second-best scorers after Al Rayyan’s Roger Guedes (21 goals).Qatar SC have bolstered their squad by signing players Brazilian Bruno Tabata, Spaniards Pau Prim and Albert Luque, and Abdullah Al Marafi. They will join the existing core group as they aim for a strong showing in all competitions.Qatar SC will kick off their Qatar Stars League campaign against Al Wakrah at Lusail Stadium on August 20. They are also gearing up for Gulf Clubs Champions League with aspirations to achieve positive results.Prats targets another strong season with Al ShamalAl Shamal coach David Prats says the club is determined to build on last season's success and achieve the best possible results when the new Qatar Bank Stars League season kicks off on August 20.Speaking Sunday, the Spaniard said preparations were progressing well during the team's pre-season training camp in the Netherlands.Prats acknowledged the challenges that lie ahead, particularly with Al Shamal set to make their historic debut in the AFC Champions League alongside their domestic commitments.’Our focus is on reaching the required technical and physical level before the league begins, especially after the arrival of several new players,’ he said.Reflecting on last season, when Al Shamal finished runners-up in the league, Prats said repeating that success would not be easy.’We had an exceptional season and achieved outstanding results, but the new season will be more difficult,’ he said.’The coming season will be full of challenges, especially as we will be competing in the AFC Champions League for the first time in our history, in addition to the Qatari league. We will do our best in both competitions.’Prats added that balancing domestic and continental commitments would require careful planning, particularly with a demanding fixture schedule, but stressed that managing such challenges is part of modern football. US President Donald Trump said Monday that negotiations with Iran were ongoing despite Tehran’s denials and the country was facing a “last chance before decapitation.”Trump, speaking to reporters at the White House, said he agreed to continue to pursue talks with Iran at the request of Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and other countries.Iran’s foreign ministry denied Monday that negotiations with Washington were taking place, but Trump insisted they were. “We are talking right now,” he said.”This is a last chance for them to sign a good document,” the US president added. “I want to give them every last chance before decapitation.”The talks are focused on reopening the Strait of Hormuz, which Trump said could come “literally by tomorrow,” and the denuclearisation of Iran, which he said could “take a little while.”Washington and Tehran have been at war since February 28, when the United States and Israel launched surprise strikes against Iran, though months of on-and-off diplomacy have led to periods of relative calm.More than five months later, Iran remains able to fire missiles and drones at US and allied targets in the region and retains its enriched uranium stockpiles.In what has become a familiar pattern, Trump last week had threatened to hit Iran “very hard” — potentially with renewed attacks against energy infrastructure — only to pull back on Saturday, saying the “perimeters” of a deal were there.Iran, for its part, said it is not currently negotiating with the United States.”Our negotiations are with Oman to secure passage through the Strait of Hormuz,” the critical oil corridor, foreign ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei said.Calling Tehran “duplicitous” for “openly and proudly” saying it was not negotiating, Trump wrote on social media: “Whether Iran wants to admit it or not, we are, in fact, talking of a solution to a problem that they have caused, for decades.”He pointed to the United States’ counter-blockade of Iranian ports, adding: “Nothing gets through to Iran, unless we want it to, and nothing will get through, unless a Deal, or Total Surrender, is accomplished.”Before the war, there was free passage through Hormuz, but Iran now insists on retaining control and charging fees, something the United States rejects.Tehran has refused to let ships travel any route other than one that hugs the Iranian coast.On Sunday, Baqaei told state television that a deal was close on managing Hormuz together with Oman, which sits on the other side of the narrow waterway.”We are now going to reach an understanding on a route acceptable to both sides — neither the northern route nor the southern route — but one that respects the sovereign rights of both sides and safeguards our national interests and security,” he said.But he insisted that such an agreement did not mean the reopening of the strait.On Sunday, a tanker off the coast of Oman reported hearing an explosion nearby, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) Centre reported, but the ship and crew were all reported safe.The US president said at the start of the conflict that the war was necessary to deal with Iran’s nuclear programme and he repeated Monday that “the denuclearisation of Iran has to happen.”Speaking to reporters on Air Force One over the weekend, Trump said he had been asked by Iran as well as regional US partners to hold off on further strikes, which he claimed would have been “the biggest attack since World War II.”Iranian media denied that Tehran had asked Trump not to strike.A previous ceasefire deal fell through last month. It was supposed to open the Strait of Hormuz to ships carrying vital energy exports from the Gulf to feed the global economy.  Related Story Source link

Alexandra Eala capped her giant-killing run at the Washington Open with a 4-6, 6-4, 6-0 victory over top-seeded Jessica Pegula on Monday to become the first player from the Philippines to win a WTA title.Eala, ranked 28th, overpowered Pegula over the final two sets as play resumed in the final suspended after lengthy weather delays on Sunday.Playing in her second final, after a runner-up finish at Eastbourne last year, the 21-year-old left-hander produced a rock-solid service display and an impressive array of winners to deny third-ranked Pegula a 12th career title and a third this year.The scoreboard showed a match time of one hour and 45 minutes, but it took nearly 24 hours to complete.Pegula had won the first set 6-4 and Eala was up 2-1 in the second on Sunday when officials postponed the finish until Monday after lengthy rain delays.The pair had waited through a three-hour delay before starting, and once the match was halted it was another five hours before officials called a halt for the day.That also saw the ATP final between 10th-ranked American Taylor Fritz and 19-year-old Spaniard Rafael Jodar postponed.Pegula opened the action on Monday with a nervy service hold for 2-2.But she could make no inroads on Eala’s serve and Eala broke Pegula in the 10th game to take the set and force a third.The final set was all Eala, to the delight of a vocal contingent of supporters.Eala had been enthusiastically cheered all week as she made her way to the final with wins over second-seeded Elina Svitolina, third-seeded former world number one Naomi Osaka and defending champion Leylah Fernandez.Eala is now projected to rise to a career-high 20th in the world.  Related Story Source link
