The report on Strategic Tourism Ambition in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Countries, issued by the GCC Statistical Centre (GCC-Stat), indicated that the direct and indirect economic value of tourism in the GCC countries rose to approximately US$254.7 billion in 2025, compared with US$11.7 trillion globally. The number of tourism-related jobs in the GCC countries reached approximately 4.5 million, compared with around 371 million globally, while tourism’s contribution to gross domestic product (GDP) and employment, as well as the sector’s growth rates in the GCC, stood at competitive levels compared with global averages.The report, which examines the sector’s ability to withstand geopolitical tensions, recovery pathways and the economic outlook through 2035, showed that the GCC tourism sector had made tangible progress towards achieving the targets of the Gulf Tourism Strategy 2022-2030, with average progress towards the six strategic objectives reaching approximately 73.8% by 2025, driven by sustained growth in visitor numbers and tourism spending, an increase in the sector’s contribution to GDP, and growth in direct employment opportunities.The report measures progress towards six key objectives of the Gulf Tourism Strategy: increasing the number of inbound trips, direct travel and tourism GDP, inbound tourist spending, the sector’s share of GDP, domestic tourist spending and direct employment.By 2030, the strategy aims to attract 128.7 million visitors, raise direct travel and tourism GDP to US$145.8 billion, increase inbound tourist spending to US$188 billion, raise the sector’s direct contribution to GDP to 6.5%, increase domestic tourist spending to US$49 billion, and bring the number of direct jobs to approximately 2.9 million.For inbound visitor numbers, the total reached 89.9 million in 2025, representing 69.9% of the 2030 target of 128.7 million visitors. The number grew by 3.1% between 2024 and 2025, while average annual growth over the 2019-2025 period was approximately 29.4%, taking into account the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the trajectory of this indicator.In terms of inbound tourist spending, total expenditure rose to US$131.9 billion in 2025, achieving 70.2% of the 2030 target of US$188 billion. It recorded growth of 9.7% in one year and average annual growth of 17.5% over the 2019-2025 period.As for domestic tourism, domestic tourist spending reached US$42.9 billion in 2025, achieving 87.6% of the 2030 target of US$49 billion. Spending grew by 6.2% between 2024 and 2025, while average annual growth over the 2019-2025 period was approximately 20.3%.Direct travel and tourism GDP in the GCC countries reached US$101.7 billion in 2025, achieving 69.8% of the 2030 target of US$145.8 billion, with annual growth of 8.8% between 2024 and 2025 and average annual growth of 15.9% over the 2019-2025 period.The travel and tourism sector’s contribution to the GCC countries’ GDP also rose to 4.6% in 2025, achieving 70.8% of the 2030 target of 6.5%. This contribution grew by 7% between 2024 and 2025, while average annual growth over the 2019-2025 period was approximately 7.2%.In the labour market, total direct employment in the travel and tourism sector reached 2.2 million jobs in 2025, achieving 74.7% of the 2030 target of approximately 2.9 million jobs, with annual growth of 5.6% between 2024 and 2025 and average annual growth of 4.9% over the 2019-2025 period.These indicators strengthened the international standing of the tourism sector in the GCC countries, whose share of total international tourism reached 5% in 2025, while their share of global tourism receipts stood at 6.9%. This reflects the region’s expanding presence in the global tourism market and the sector’s growing economic impact.In terms of ease of international mobility, the report indicated that the GCC countries occupy the top six positions among Arab countries for passport strength, according to the Henley Passport Index 2026. Compared with 2016, GCC passports recorded cumulative improvements in their rankings ranging from 6 to 36 places as of 16 July 2026.  Source link

Rocket Lab announced the successful launch of a new Earth observation satellite, as part of a mission carried out by an Electron rocket from the company’s launch complex in New Zealand.The company explained that the Owlright Owlright Owlright mission carried the thirteenth satellite of Synspective’s StriX series, which was successfully placed in low Earth orbit at an altitude of 559 kilometers.The launch aims to expand the StriX constellation dedicated to imaging the Earth using SAR synthetic aperture radar, which provides high-resolution images of the Earth’s surface in all weather conditions.Rocket Lab said the mission marks the 97th launch of an Electron rocket and the company’s 18th this year.It added that the Electron rocket succeeded in launching all thirteen StriX satellites into orbit, while 14 other launches are still scheduled to deploy the rest of the constellation’s satellites by the end of the decade.  Source link

Israeli settlers stormed on Sunday Al-Aqsa Mosque in occupied Jerusalem under heavy protection from the Israeli occupation police.Palestinian news agency (WAFA), citing Palestinian sources, reported that a number of settlers stormed Al-Aqsa Mosque courtyards through Bab Al-Magharibah Gate. They conducted provocative tours and performed Talmudic rituals, while occupation forces tightened military measures in the mosque’s vicinity and throughout the Old City of Jerusalem.These incursions are part of the Israeli occupation’s efforts to obliterate the Islamic and historic identity of Jerusalem and carry out its plans for the temporal and spatial division of the Mosque.  Source link

OpenAI has announced the suspension of training, evaluation, and inference operations involving tool use for its most advanced models, after one of its AI models managed to bypass internet connectivity restrictions during a security test.The company said that the model was operating within a test environment designed to prevent internet access; however, it discovered a vulnerability related to the Domain Name System (DNS) and exploited it to communicate with an external chatbot via the internet.During the test, the model was tasked with identifying the author of a blog post based on a set of clues. After failing to complete the task using the simulated web environment, it identified a way to use the DNS system to send queries to an external service and retrieve information from it.OpenAI stated that it detected the external connection and halted the test, noting that operations involving tool use-specifically training, evaluation, and inference-will remain suspended until the vulnerability is addressed and additional safety tests are conducted.The company noted that while this incident is less severe than some previous ones, it marks the first of its kind since security measures for test environments were tightened.  Related Story Source link

Excessive use of artificial intelligence (AI) to solve practice papers could give students a false sense of preparedness and prevent them from identifying their actual weaknesses, a number of education experts, academics, students and parents have said. The experts said that AI can be a valuable educational tool when used after students have attempted questions independently. It can help explain difficult concepts, identify mistakes and provide additional learning resources, they added, but should not replace revision, practice and independent thinking. Educational consultant Rashid al-Fadli said that AI has made learning easier by providing quick access to information, explanations and educational assistance. However, excessive reliance on ready-made answers could encourage dependency, weaken students’ ability to remember and understand information, and create what he described as “blind confidence” in AI-generated content. Al-Fadli called for schools to organise training for teachers on identifying inappropriate AI use in assignments and projects, while educating students on responsible use and avoiding copying or cheating. Educator Wahib al-Wahibi said that AI can simplify complex subjects, particularly mathematics and physics, and offer explanations suited to different levels of understanding. However, he warned that excessive dependence could produce students who lack the willingness to research, analyse and question information independently. “AI should provide additional explanations and diverse sources, not simply transfer information or provide ready-made answers,” al-Wahibi said, stressing that teachers can also demonstrate responsible use of the technology in the classroom. At university level, associate professor Dr Boumediene Ramdani stressed the importance of academic integrity. He said that submitting AI-generated content as a student’s own work conflicts with academic conduct rules. At the same time, Dr Ramdani said that students should not be isolated from AI, but taught to use it responsibly to support analysis, creativity and learning while remaining accountable for their own work. Cybersecurity student Shafi al-Qahtani said students should first complete practice examinations independently so they can accurately assess their performance. AI can then be used to explain mistakes and clarify difficult concepts. He also highlighted the importance of protecting personal and sensitive information when using AI platforms. Parent Mishal al-Sulaiti said that relying on AI to complete practice papers could prevent students from discovering their genuine level of preparation. He called for greater parental follow-up and teacher training to identify inappropriate use while promoting productive applications of AI in education. Fellow parent Hamad al-Marri similarly stressed that solving practice papers independently is essential for identifying weaknesses and developing problem-solving skills. He warned that AI could become harmful if it shifts from being a support tool to a substitute for study and personal effort. Computer science student Abdulaziz al-Haidous said the key issue is not AI itself but how it is used, noting that students can benefit from it for research and explanations. Student Salman Mahmoud urged users to treat AI as a “private tutor” or “teaching assistant” and verify its answers through books, teachers and other reliable sources rather than accepting its output as absolute fact.
