Bangladesh women name squad for historic Australia ODI series

Bangladesh have named a 16-member squad for their upcoming three-match ODI series against Australia, with regular captain Nigar Sultana Joty set to lead the Bangladesh women and spinner Nahida Akter named vice-captain.

The squad is largely unchanged from the team that featured in the Women’s Asia Cup and the Asian Games in Japan earlier this month.

Pacer Marufa Akter will spearhead the Bangladesh women’s bowling attack, while 17-year-old Habiba Islam Pinky has also been included among the pace options.

Experienced batter Farzana Haque returns to the ODI setup, while Murshida Khatun has been recalled after last featuring for Bangladesh in January 2025.

Young all-rounder Disha Biswas, who recently represented the Bangladesh Emerging side, has also earned a place in the squad.

However, top-order batter Juairiya Ferdous, experienced spinner Fahima Khatun and all-rounder Shorna Akter have been left out of the squad that travelled to the Asian Games.

The three-match series will form part of the ICC Women’s Championship, with Bangladesh currently eighth in the standings. The tour will provide the Bangladesh women with a challenging test in Australian conditions.

The first two matches will be played at Allan Border Field in Brisbane on 9 and 11 October, with the third and final ODI also scheduled at the same venue on 14 October.

The series will be Bangladesh women’s first ODI tour of Australia.
