The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has appointed Liton Das as the new captain of the national men’s One-Day International (ODI) team, replacing Mehidy Hasan Miraz.
With the decision, Liton will now lead Bangladesh in both limited-overs formats, having already been entrusted with the T20I captaincy.
The decision was announced by BCB President Tamim Iqbal after a meeting of the BCB Board of Directors at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur today (29 July).
Tamim said the board has decided to reduce the number of captains across formats from three to two, with Litton taking charge of the ODI side.
“We previously had three captains for the three formats. I believe we should have two captains, and the board shares that view,” Tamim told reporters after the meeting.
He revealed that the board discussed the decision with Miraz before making the change.
“Miraz has been a successful captain, winning four out of five series. But we are accustomed to seeing him perform consistently, and recently he hasn’t been at his best, particularly with the bat,” Tamim said.
The BCB president expressed hope that relieving Miraz of the captaincy would allow him to regain his form.
“I spoke to Miraz and explained the reasons behind the decision. He understood our position, and after receiving agreement from both sides, we finalised the appointment,” he added.
