The General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) announced that an extraordinary meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers will be held next Saturday to discuss the rapidly escalating and dangerous developments in the Federal Republic of Somalia.  In a statement issued Wednesday, the OIC indicated that the meeting comes in response to recent developments, namely the Israeli occupation’s announcement recognizing the so-called ‘Somaliland’ region as an independent state, a move that is considered an infringement upon Somalia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. The meeting aims to formulate a unified Islamic position regarding these developments and to reaffirm unwavering support for Somalia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, in accordance with international conventions and relevant OIC resolutions. The Commission against the Wall and Settlements said that Israeli authorities, represented by the so-called “Israel Land Authority,” have issued a major tender for the construction of 3,401 settlement units in the area designated as E1, east of occupied Jerusalem.  In a statement, the Commission affirmed that this step constitutes a highly dangerous escalation in the repercussions of the accelerated assault on Palestinian lands through colonial settlement plans.It emphasized that Israeli authorities have effectively moved from the planning and approval phase to the implementation phase with regard to this plan.  The head of the Commission Mu’ayyad Sha’ban explained that this tender comes as a continuation of the E1 plan, which was approved in August 2025.He pointed out that initiating the tender process effectively means completely separating Jerusalem from its Palestinian surroundings and linking the Ma’ale Adumim settlement to the city, within the framework of the “Greater Jerusalem” project, thus undermining any realistic possibility of establishing a geographically contiguous Palestinian state.  Somalia on Tuesday strongly condemned the entry of the Israeli Foreign Minister into Hargeisa, a city that is an integral part of Somalia's sovereign territories. In a statement on Tuesday, the Somali Ministry of Foreign Affairs considered this action a blatant violation of the country's sovereignty, political unity, and territorial integrity, and an unacceptable interference in the internal affairs of a UN member state. The Ministry affirmed that Hargeisa is an integral and inalienable part of internationally recognized Somali territories, and that any official presence, contact, or dealings within Somali territories without the explicit consent and authorization of the Federal Government are illegal, null and void, and have no legal effect. The statement added that these practices contravene the principles of the UN Charter, the Constitutive Act of the African Union (AU), and international norms governing relations between sovereign states, including respect for sovereignty, territorial integrity, and non-interference in internal affairs. The Somali government called on Israel to immediately cease all actions that undermine Somalia’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity, and to fully comply with international law. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs affirmed Somalia’s commitment to peaceful international engagement, constructive diplomacy, and adherence to international law, while reserving the right to take all necessary diplomatic and legal measures to protect the country’s sovereignty, national unity, and territorial integrity.  Source link

Libya’s Anti-Illegal Immigration Agency reported that more than 37,000 irregular migrants were returned to their countries in 2025 as part of the voluntary return program, within the framework of the security and regulatory measures implemented by the Libyan authorities to confront irregular migration flows.This came in a statement from the agency following a meeting held by Interior Minister Essam Abu Zriba with the Head of the Anti-Illegal Immigration Agency Salah Al Khafifi to follow up on the results of the work during 2025 and to review the agency’s plan for 2026.  The meeting included a review of the agency’s annual report, which included data and statistics on the number of irregular migrants who were apprehended, in addition to deportation procedures that were carried out through land and air ports, in accordance with legal and humanitarian controls and international standards.  The meeting also discussed the logistical and security challenges facing Libya, as it is one of the main transit countries for irregular migrants.  Libya has been witnessing increasing waves of irregular migration for years, which has affected security, economic and service aspects, prompting the authorities to intensify their efforts to apprehend violators and regulate deportation operations.  Lebanese President Joseph Aoun on Tuesday condemned Israel’s latest strikes on his country, saying they undermine efforts to prevent escalation.Aoun’s criticism came after Israel launched a series of strikes in southern and eastern Lebanon on Monday, saying it hit Hezbollah and Hamas targets. The attacks began with strikes on four villages where Israel had issued evacuation warnings, though later bombing including a strike in the early hours of Tuesday came without prior notice.In a statement, Aoun said that “Israel’s continued attacks aim to thwart all efforts made locally, regionally and internationally to stop the ongoing Israeli escalation, despite the response shown by Lebanon to these efforts at various levels”. In spite of a year-old ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah, Israel has carried out frequent strikes on Lebanon, usually saying it is bombing Hezbollah sites and operatives, and occasionally Hamas targets. The strike early on Tuesday targeted Ghazieh, near the southern coastal city of Sidon, destroying a building and damaging its surroundings, causing a fire on site which firefighters deployed to combat, according to an AFP photographer.The latest strikes come with the committee monitoring the ceasefire, which includes the United States, France, Lebanon, Israel and the United Nations, set to meet on Wednesday.  Source link

Eleven students were injured after Israeli occupation forces entered the campus of Birzeit University in the occupied West Bank, Palestinian officials said.The Palestinian Red Crescent said five students were wounded by live fire, four suffered tear gas inhalation and two were injured in falls. All were taken to hospital.University officials said troops broke through the main gate and fired live rounds, tear gas and stun grenades while thousands of students were on campus. They added that buildings were entered, and student equipment seized, and that the university’s vice-president for academic affairs was briefly detained.The Palestinian Ministry of Education condemned the raid, calling it a violation of international conventions protecting educational institutions. The incident comes amid heightened Israeli military activity across the West Bank. A Palestinian man was martyred on Tuesday by Israeli drone fire east of Khan Younis in the southern Gaza Strip.Since the ceasefire agreement came into effect, 427 Palestinians were martyred, with at least 1,189 others injured. Medical teams have also recovered 684 bodies from under the rubble.The ceasefire agreement between Hamas and the Israeli entity came into effect on Oct. 10 as part of the first phase of US President Donald Trump’s initiative to end the war in Gaza. However, the Israeli army has continued to violate the agreement and target Palestinian civilians through airstrikes and attacks on residential areas, resulting in casualties, worsening the suffering of the people, hindering efforts to restore stability in the Strip, and obstructing the return of displaced peopel to their homes.  Source link

The Sultanate of Oman welcomed Sunday the call for dialogue between all southern factions in Yemen, which will be held in Saudi Arabia. The Oman News Agency (ONA) said that the Omani Foreign Ministry expressed in a statement the Sultanate’s welcome of the call for dialogue between all southern components in the Republic of Yemen, hosted by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, in a way that contributes to achieving the desired consensus in the context of a comprehensive political solution in line with the legitimate aspirations of the Yemeni people. Slovenia, Iceland, Ireland, Luxembourg, Malta, Norway, and Spain have condemned recent Israeli legislation targeting the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), including measures to cut water, electricity, and communications to its facilities.In a joint statement issued on Monday, the seven countries stated that measures undermine the mandate of the United Nations, violate international law, and contravene rulings of the International Court of Justice. They warned that such actions could lead to severe humanitarian consequences for Palestinian civilians and refugees.The seven states called on the Israeli occupation government to ensure the continued ability of accredited international non-governmental organizations to operate in the Gaza Strip, and to halt any moves to deregister them. They stressed that these organizations are an essential component of humanitarian service delivery, particularly health services, in Gaza and the West Bank.The statement noted that the work of the United Nations, especially UNRWA, in cooperation with humanitarian and non-governmental organizations, is vital to addressing the acute humanitarian crisis and providing life-saving assistance and basic services to civilians in Gaza, the occupied Palestinian territories, and surrounding areas.It also emphasized the importance of ensuring full and safe access for humanitarian aid, enabling the continued operations of the United Nations and its partners in accordance with international humanitarian law and international legal obligations, while underscoring that respect for the privileges and immunities of the United Nations and for international humanitarian law is fundamental and indispensable.Earlier this January, the United Nations condemned a decision by the Israeli Knesset issued on December 29 to halt UNRWA's activities, stating that the law and its amendments contradict the agency's international legal status and must be immediately repealed.
