Chelsea announced on Sunday that it has completed the signing of Argentina goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez from Aston Villa on a three-year contract.
The 33-year-old goalkeeper joins the West London club ahead of the transfer deadline, bolstering the squad under manager Xabi Alonso.
Martinez departs Villa Park after a six-season tenure in the Midlands during which he made 256 appearances and established himself as one of the Premier League’s premier shot-stoppers. His final campaign with Aston Villa was highlighted by a historic UEFA Europa League title victory in May.
Since making his senior international debut for Argentina in June 2021, Martinez has anchored the Albiceleste defense through a dominant era, earning 67 caps and capturing consecutive Copa America titles in 2021 and 2024, alongside the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
