China’s Ministry of Emergency Management issued a Level (4) emergency response for disaster relief after Typhoon Matmo, the 21st typhoon of the 2025 Pacific typhoon season, struck the southern provinces of Guangdong and Hainan.
China’s National Commission for Disaster Reduction (NCDR) dispatched working teams to the affected areas to direct rescue and relief operations at the disaster sites, Xinhua News Agency reported.
According to local authorities, approximately 347,000 people in Guangdong and Hainan provinces have been evacuated for their safety.
China has a four-tier emergency response system, with Level 1 representing the most severe response.
