French Translation of ‘A Qatari on the Banks of the Seine: Cultural Dialogue’ Published

The French translation of the book ‘A Qatari on the Banks of the Seine: Cultural Dialogue’ by HE Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and President of the Organization’s Executive Board Dr. Nasser bin Hamad Al Hanzab, has recently been published under the title Un Qatari au bord de la Seine, Dialogue culturel.

The book was translated by Khadija Toukkabri and published by the French publishing house L’Harmattan, following its publication in Arabic by Rosa Publishing House.

In a statement to the Qatar News Agency (QNA), HE Dr. Al Hanzab said that the publication of the book in French represents an extension of the cultural dialogue that emerged from a personal experience, and enables French and European readers to gain closer insight into Qatar and its culture through a lived human experience, away from stereotypes.

He added that translating the book into French is particularly significant because it conveys this experience into the language and culture with which a large part of the events recounted in the book were connected, while also opening up broader opportunities for mutual understanding and familiarity between Qatari and French cultures.

The book is based on years spent by the author in France and recounts the experience of a young Qatari who moves to Paris and finds himself between two cultures.

It explores details of daily life, encounters and experiences that contributed to shaping his outlook, alongside his experience working at UNESCO.

The book is considered HE Dr. Nasser Al Hanzab’s first narrative work. It reflects aspects of his personal and intellectual experience in France, presenting a perspective based on the premise that mutual knowledge and direct dialogue constitute a fundamental means of overcoming stereotypes and building stronger bridges between peoples and cultures.
