Injaaz Stud’s Rayyan Bu Thaila secured an impressive victory in the Al Uqda Local Thoroughbred Trophy Open Race as jockey Pierre-Charles Boudot completed his treble at Al Rayyan Racecourse Saturday.The five-year-old chestnut gelding, trained by Jihad El Ahmad, was settled off the early pace before launching a strong run to reel in the long-time leader and strike the front inside the final furlong, drawing clear to score by 1½ lengths. Al Nasr Al Washeek set the pace from the outset and dictated throughout the early and middle stages, tracked by Barq Al Atam, War Boy, Saida and Al Faisal, with the field well strung out behind the long-time leader. Settling off the tempo, Rayyan Bu Thaila travelled comfortably in behind, conserving energy as the race developed. Approaching the final furlong, he was produced with a strong run, closing rapidly on the leader and the chasing pack. Once in front, he asserted and pulled clear in the closing stages. Al Faisal, representing Al Emadi Racing and prepared by Khalifa Hamed Nasser al-Sawai, finished second with Alberto Sanna doing the steering, just a head ahead of Saida, who stayed on for Time Form Syndicate, from the Hamad al-Jehani yard and with Saleh Faraj al-Otaibi aboard to take third. The Israeli occupation forces (OIF) bombed at dawn on Thursday a residential apartment in the city of Nablus in the occupied West Bank, and arrested four Palestinians.WAFA news agency reported that the IOF stormed Nablus and surrounded the apartment before bombing it, adding that the IOF also arrested two of its residents during the operation.The IOF also stormed the Old City in Nablus and arrested two more young Palestinians after having raided their homes.This attack comes as part of a series of arbitrary practices carried out by the Israeli occupation in various areas of the occupied West Bank, which often include house raids, mass arrests, and the use of live ammunition. Lusail Boulevard brings together over 250,000 people to watch Qatar’s largest fireworks display
Lusail City stole the spotlight during Qatar’s New Year celebrations on Wednesday evening, as Lusail Boulevard hosted a grand event marking the close of the year. The city’s skyline was illuminated by the largest fireworks display in the State of Qatar, officially welcoming the New Year 2026 in a spectacular celebration that attracted more than 250,000 citizens, residents, and visitors. Festivities began at 6:00 PM with advanced laser light shows inspired by the city’s modern architectural identity, followed by live artistic and musical performances that continued until midnight. The vibrant atmosphere highlighted Lusail’s capability to host major events and deliver them to the highest international standards. A standout drone show featured 4,000 pyrotechnic shots launched by 1,000 “Pyrodrone” units from 46 different locations, alongside a total of 15,300 individual fireworks synchronized with the main display. Together, they created a breathtaking visual scene across the city’s sky, reflecting Lusail’s spirit of innovation and creativity. The event witnessed an exceptional public turnout, underscoring Lusail’s growing status as a leading destination for national celebrations and major events in Qatar. The city has increasingly become a focal point for high-profile occasions representing the country at both local and international levels. Bazm-e-Urdu Qatar organised the International Mushaira on December 26 in Doha aimed at nurturing the Urdu language and literature and promoting it among the younger generation.Renowned and seasoned poets from the subcontinent graced the Mushaira, adding exceptional splendour to the literary gathering.Eminent poets including Shakeel Azmi, Afzal Allahabadi, Dil Khairabadi, Rana Tabassum, Faraz Adeebi, Sabahat Aarruj, and Khalid Nadeem Shani wowed the audience with their thought-provoking and melodious poetry.Their verses reflected a fine blend of intellectual depth, artistic maturity, and contemporary awareness, drawing repeated applause from the listeners. Their participation truly imparted an international character to the Mushaira and reaffirmed that Urdu poetry transcends geographical boundaries.Doha-based local poets also made a strong impact, demonstrating that the land of Doha is rich with fertile literary minds. He highlighted the organisation’s literary services, historical significance, and its pivotal role in promoting the Urdu language.The initial proceedings were conducted by Ahmad Ashfaq, the general secretary of Bazm-e-Urdu Qatar, and the formal stage was later taken over by Dr Nadeem Zafar Jilani Danish.Mushaira president Jawaid Danish, an internationally acclaimed theatre artist and literary figure from Canada, lauded the global reach of the Urdu language, the consistent efforts of Bazm-e-Urdu Qatar, and the sincerity of the organisers. He described such gatherings as a breath of fresh air for Urdu literature.Chief guest Issa Salman Juma Rabia al-Kuwari expressed his deep affection for Urdu language and literature and congratulated Bazm-e-Urdu Qatar on organising such a meaningful and successful literary event.The presence of distinguished literary personalities such as Gauhar Altaf, Tanveer Sheikh, Javaid Sahib, Ibrahim Khan Kamal, and other renowned poets and writers further enhanced the stature of the Mushaira. The Organising Committee of the Doha Equestrian Tour 2026 announced the launch of the inaugural HH The Father Amir’s Prix, the opening event of the season, which gets under way on Friday at the Longines Arena at Al Shaqab and runs until Sunday. More than 240 male and female riders from 32 countries are taking part in the championship, which boasts a total prize pool exceeding €3.3 million. The event comprises four international rounds, featuring competitions ranging from CSI1* to CSI5**, in addition to classes for junior and young riders. After first tour concludes this Sunday, the second leg will begin from January 8-10, the third from January 22-24, and the fourth and final round will be held from January 29-31. The second, third and fourth rounds will include qualifying classes for the FEI Group VII Final. The championship is jointly organised by the Qatar Equestrian Federation, Al Shaqab and the Qatar Olympic Committee.
