Private data on millions of customers has been stolen in a cyberattack on three British airports, the Manchester Airports Group announced yesterday, saying the attack did not impact flights or airport operations.MAG, which operates the Manchester, London Stansted and East Midlands airports, said the data of 8.7mn customers had been compromised.The information included email addresses, phone numbers, vehicle registrations and postcodes.The cyberattack took place over the weekend, and MAG said it became aware of it Tuesday.The incident has “not resulted in any operational disruption” and “airport operations remain unaffected,” MAG said in a statement.”At no point has passenger safety or aviation security been compromised,” it said, adding that bank and payment details were also not affected.MAG attributed the cyberattack to “an unauthorised third party”, without further details.”A quantity of customer data has been obtained that relates to car park, lounge and Fast Track bookings and in-airport WiFi sign-up,” it said.”We immediately contained the risk and have been working with specialist advisors and taking appropriate steps to protect our customers and systems,” it added.Britain was hit by a wave of cyberattacks last year targeting companies including carmaker Jaguar Land Rover and the retailers Marks and Spencer, Harrods and the Co-op food chain.  Related Story Source link

 China warned the United States yesterday against “smearing” Beijing with hacking allegations after US law enforcement disrupted internet domains it said were used by Chinese state-sponsored groups. The US Justice Department and FBI said on Tuesday they had seized domains used by a Chinese state-sponsored hacking group known as “QTFY” and hacking platforms “QScan” and “QTRouter”.They said that victims of QTFY intrusion included Nasa, the Federal Reserve, the US Senate and the departments of energy, justice and health and human services. Beijing’s foreign ministry called the allegations “false information” on Thursday, accusing the United States of “distorting right and wrong”.”China expresses strong dissatisfaction with and firm opposition to the US side’s repeated wrongful practice of smearing China under the pretext of cybersecurity concerns,” spokesman Lin Jian told reporters at a news briefing. US federal law enforcement “investigated and disabled the PRC’s (People’s Republic of China’s) malicious software, the latest in a series of technical operations to dismantle indiscriminate hacking activities sponsored by” China, Attorney General Todd Blanche said in a statement on Tuesday. FBI Director Kash Patel said the operation resulted in the disruption of a “global botnet and hacking platform used by Chinese state-sponsored hackers to target US critical infrastructure”.Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Lin urged Washington on Thursday to abandon its “double standards and political manipulation”.”The United States is globally recognised as the world’s biggest hacking and surveillance empire, its track record is notorious and the evidence is irrefutable,” he added.The United States and several other countries frequently condemn what they say is state-backed Chinese hacking activity of governments, militaries and businesses.Beijing rejects the allegations.  Related Story Source link

(AFP) The dream team of Serena Williams and Carlos Alcaraz made a winning start but could not progress to the final stages of US Open’s mixed doubles tournament. Williams, often considered the best women’s tennis player in history and Spain’s seven-time Grand Slam singles champion Alcaraz fell to Belinda Bencic of Switzerland and Flavio Cobolli of Italy, 5-4, 4-1.The result means Bencic and Cobolli will advance to Wednesday’s finale of the unorthodox competition, when the semi-finals and finals will be played back-to-back. “We felt their aura for sure,” Bencic told a television interviewer afterward. “It was an honor to play.””Playing Serena and Carlos on Arthur Ashe is not easy,” Cobolli said. “So now maybe we take a beer.” Williams and Alcaraz had shown strong form earlier defeating the British-New Zealand pair of Lloyd Glasspool and Emma Routliffe.But Cobolli, who is having a breakout season in singles as the French Open runner-up and Bencic, an Olympic Gold medalist with singles wins over Williams, proved too much. Williams was making her competitive return to Arthur Ashe Stadium since her 2022 retirement, paired with Spain’s Alcaraz, himself back after a lengthy injury layoff.The pair, dressed in coordinated purple and black jersey-type outfits, smiled as they bantered and joked on changeovers. The audience, which roared their arrival in Tuesday’s first round, was a bit more subdued in the second match. Earlier Tuesday, another high-wattage pairing, former world number one Novak Djokovic and four-time Grand Slam champion Aryna Sabalenka also were sent packing, losing to Czech Katerina Siniakova and Britain’s Henry Patten in three sets.The US Open mixed doubles format features a blend of doubles specialists and star singles players pairing up, sometimes with a bit an experimental mindset.The event, in its second year, will have a new winner after defending champions Andrea Vavassori and Sara Errani, both doubles specialists, lost to the Russian pair of Mirra Andreeva and Andrey Rublev 1-4, 4-1, 11-9.The Czech pairing of Karolina Muchova and Jakub Mensik, both highly ranked singles players, realized quickly they had to adjust when they faced Kristina Mladenovic of France and Marcelo Arevalo of El Salvador, both of whom have won Grand Slam doubles titles.”They keep us more on our toes,” Muchova said after a quarterfinal win put the pair in the semifinals. “They see the court I would say a little bit different.” One first-time team that scored unexpected success was the husband-and-wife pairing of France’s Gael Monfils and Ukraine’s Elina Svitolina.They won two matches in the shortened format, including a tightly contested quarterfinal win over Siniakova and Patten 5-4, 4-5 and 10-8 in the decisive tie-break. “We had zero expectations,” Svitolina said after the match.The pair only learned late that they had been granted a wildcard and had joked about not winning a game. Monfils, who will retire after this season, said it is still too early for talk about winning the title, but “we will have great images for our memory.”   Related Story Source link

 Turkey increased its imports of diesel from the US and India in August to record levels, shipping data showed, as a Russian ban on diesel exports and wider disruption caused by the Iran war prompted its importers to diversify their sources of supply. So far this month, Turkey has imported more than 120,000 barrels per day of Indian diesel, while its imports from the US reached 90,000 bpd, according to commodities data firm Kpler. These volumes are the highest monthly totals on record, according to Kpler data going back to 2017. Russia has banned exports of diesel until at least the end of August after Ukrainian strikes on refineries disrupted domestic supplies. Middle Eastern supplies have been curbed by war damage to the region’s oil refineries and reduced shipping through the Strait of Hormuz. “With Russian refinery disruptions and export restrictions, Turkey is having to scramble for barrels from the non-Russian pool,” Sparta Commodities analyst Abhishek Kumar said.Energy Aspects, which also provides data on energy flows, estimated India sent a smaller amount of 74,000 bpd to Turkey in August and that the US shipped 70,000 bpd. Still, these are the highest since 2022 and 2019 respectively based on EA data. Turkey’s imports of Russian diesel declined to around 100,000 bpd in July and 80,000 bpd in August, having held above 200,000 bpd in the earlier months of this year since January, Kpler data showed. This reduced Russia’s share of Turkey’s diesel imports to 20% in August. In 2025, Russia supplied 85% of Turkey’s diesel imports with 281,000 bpd, according to Turkey’s energy regulator. Russia may extend the diesel exports ban into September, according to industry sources.  Related Story Source link

Pakistan captain Babar Azam has said he is “90 percent fit” as he returns to lead his country in the second Test against England at Lord’s. Azam missed last week’s series opener at Headingley because of a finger injury, with the tourists thrashed by an innings and 103 runs in his absence as England went 1-0 up in a three-match campaign.The 31-year-old Azam was hit on the glove while batting during a warm-up match, compounding a finger injury initially sustained during Pakistan’s recent tour of the West Indies. But he has been back batting in the nets during the past 48 hours and the experienced batsman is now set to strengthen a Pakistan side dismissed for just 171 and 135 in Leeds when the second Test gets underway on Thursday.”I’ve had a couple of practice sessions again and I’m 90 percent fit for the match tomorrow,” Azam told a pre-match press conference at Lord’s on Wednesday. “Always when you lead the Pakistan team, especially at this ground, it is an honour for me and I will do my best. If it is on the field as captain or when I’m batting, I will just play my game.”He added: “I think we were not playing up to our mark (in the first Test) but credit to England for the way they are playing. After that we sat to discuss our mistakes and now we are looking forward to the match, believing in ourselves and we will try to play good cricket.”Azam was Pakistan’s top run-scorer in the West Indies, with 193 runs during a drawn two-Test series. He has also enjoyed success in England, with three fifties in six innings while averaging 65.75. Azan Awais may make way if Azam returns at number four, with one of Shan Masood or Abdullah Shafique moving up the order to open.Pakistan could also make changes to their bowling line-up as well this week, with 20-year-old Ubaid Shah able to provide extra speed to an attack lacking in sheer pace in Leeds. That would leave Khurram Shahzad and Mohammad Ali vying for one place, with Mohammad Abbas the most reliable of Pakistan’s pacemen at Headingley and left-arm spinner Ali Usman fresh from his maiden five-wicket haul in Test cricket.   Related Story Source link

 Malaysia said yesterday that it has finalised the first phase of a voluntary repatriation programme that will see some 1,500 Myanmar refugees return home. Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim previously stated that Myanmar had agreed to repatriate 5,000 ethnic Rohingya refugees amid rising tensions with local communities in Malaysia.The first phase takes place on September 29 and involves 1,476 Myanmar nationals who have been identified by the Myanmar government, Malaysia’s Home Ministry said.”The repatriation process will use two Myanmar Navy warships and one hospital ship,” it said.The Ministry said this year about 4,008 individuals, primarily ethnic Rohingya, will be channelled into the Refugee Registration Document (DPP) programme, while 5,000 other individuals will undergo the voluntary repatriation process, as agreed with the Myanmar government.The Ministry said there were 10,388 Myanmar nationals at immigration detention depots as of August 15, though not all can be considered refugees.”The Immigration Department is working with the police to verify the identity, nationality and security background of each detainee, with the process expected to conclude by the fourth quarter of the year,” it said.The Ministry added it will continue to identify individuals who are eligible and willing to return voluntarily.  Related Story Source link

With Nathan Lyon almost as iconic in Australian cricket as the baggy green cap worn by the nation’s Test players, selectors face a delicate task in managing a proud spinner whose role may be curtailed amid changing priorities.Australia’s second-highest Test wicket-taker of all time was an automatic selection for over a decade but his place is under pressure as conditions tempt selectors to go with an all-pace assault in upcoming series against South Africa and New Zealand.Having missed the last two Ashes Tests with injury over the home summer, Lyon was recalled for the Bangladesh series, returning as a foil for the vaunted pace unit of Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood in Darwin. But after taking 1-125 in the opening defeat and being out-bowled by spin-bowling all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz, his place for the second match was far from assured.Captain Cummins said Scott Boland and an all-pace attack were initially under consideration for Mackay but the condition of the pitch worked in Lyon’s favour. Lyon took 3-25, including two tail-end wickets, in Bangladesh’s second innings but it was ultimately nothing more than a cameo role.He was scarcely needed as Bangladesh were bowled out for 64 in the first innings before crumbling for 95 in the second. “I guess the quicks were getting the job done and we probably saw less overs from Nathan this Test match, on probably a wicket that suited a little bit as well with that bounce and spin,” said wicketkeeper Alex Carey.”Nathan’s a high-class bowler, has been for a number of years.” Turning 39 in November, Lyon remains convinced he belongs in the side and that he has lost none of the art and guile that brought him 571 wickets in 143 tests.A hamstring injury derailed Lyon’s Ashes but he would be the last to agree that his workload should be carefully managed, or that Australia can afford to go without a specialist spinner. Pity the selector that makes such a suggestion. After being dropped for the Gabba Test during the Ashes, his first omission in 13 years of home Tests, a furious Lyon described his mood as “absolutely filthy” in a TV interview. “I’m not the first player to miss a test match and I won’t be the last,” he said. “But I’m obviously pretty gutted because I know the role that I can play, and especially at a venue like this.”  More difficult conversations may loom for the October tour of South Africa, where pace is expected to dominate and Boland, who took 20 wickets during the Ashes, awaits another chance. In all-rounders Cameron Green and Beau Webster, Australia have bowlers to share the workload, while Travis Head offers handy part-time spin.”You could easily say Nathan can play every Test match, (if) it just lines up well,” said Carey “But I think for the selectors to be really flexible on different surfaces is great options for us.”  Related Story Source link

Atletico Madrid ‌forward Julian Alvarez has come under fire from fans amid reports linking him with a move to Barcelona.
