Israeli Occupation’s West Bank land measures threaten two-state solution, OIC warns

he Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has warned that recent measures by Israeli occupation authorities in the occupied West Bank risk undermining prospects for a two-state solution.In a statement issued on Monday from its headquarters in Jeddah, the 57-member bloc condemned Israel’s “illegal procedures and decisions”, citing in particular the launch of land settlement processes in parts of the occupied West Bank under the designation of “state land”.The OIC said the move was part of a broader effort to consolidate control over Palestinian territory, expand settlements and weaken the viability of a future Palestinian state.It rejected and denounced the measures, arguing that they target the presence and rights of the Palestinian people, including their right to self-determination. The organization reiterated its support for the establishment of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state along the lines of June 4,1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital. The OIC called on the international community, particularly the UN Security Council, to intervene immediately to compel Israel, as the occupying power, to halt illegal actions. It also urged that Israel be held accountable for violations against the Palestinian people, their land and holy sites. Iran FM in Geneva for second round of US talks

 Iran’s foreign minister has arrived in Geneva ahead of a second round of negotiations with the United States, Iranian state television said Monday, as Washington keeps up pressure on the Islamic republic.According to Tehran, “indirect” Iran-US nuclear talks mediated by Oman will be held on Tuesday, although Washington has previously pushed for other topics to be discussed including Iran’s ballistic missiles and support for regional proxies. Tehran and Washington restarted negotiations this month after previous talks collapsed when Israel launched an unprecedented bombing campaign against Iran last June.Considerable uncertainty surrounds the fate of Iran’s stockpile of more than 400 kilogrammes of 60-percent enriched uranium that was last seen by nuclear watchdog inspectors in June.”The foreign minister has arrived in Geneva at the head of a diplomatic and expert delegation to take part in the second round of nuclear negotiation,” Iran’s state-run IRIB wrote on its Telegram channel.The top diplomat, Abbas Araghchi, later wrote on X that he would meet in Geneva with the head of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Rafael Grossi, “for deep technical discussion”.He is also set to hold talks with his Swiss and Omani counterparts as well as other international officials, Iran’s foreign ministry said.  Source link

Wild New Zealand storm disrupts transport, leaves thousands without power

Heavy rain and strong winds disrupted flights, trains and ferries, forcing the closure of roads across large parts of New Zealand’s North Island on Monday, while snapping power links to tens of thousands.Air New Zealand paused operations at Wellington, Napier and Palmerston North airports, domestic media reported.More than 30,000 properties were without power, including about 10,000 customers in Wellington, said New Zealand authorities, who have urged motorists to stay off roads, while several schools were closed as emergency crews tackled widespread damage.The storm is forecast to bring heavy rains as it heads for the east coast of the South Island on Tuesday, the weather bureau said, with authorities warning of further disruption.  Source link

Palestinian martyred by Israeli shelling in Gaza City

A Palestinian was martyred Monday as a result of Israeli artillery shelling targeting the Shujaâ€iyya neighborhood east of Gaza City.Palestinian news agency (WAFA) reported that Israeli forces have continued artillery shelling in the eastern areas of the city since the morning hours. Since the ceasefire agreement took effect last October, the death toll has risen to 603, with a total of 1,607 injured.  Source link

8 killed in fireworks shop explosion in Eastern China

Eight people were killed and two others injured in an explosion at a fireworks shop in Dong’an District, Donghai County, eastern China.According to local authorities, the explosion occurred when someone improperly lit fireworks near the shop. The resulting fire was extinguished following a swift rescue operation.  Source link

Board of Peace pledges $5 billion for Gaza – President Trump

 US President Donald Trump announced that the recently formedآ Board of Peace will unveil a humanitarian and reconstruction aid package for Gaza,along with a major international security commitment, during the Board's inaugural meeting in Washington scheduled for next Thursday.In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump said that on February 19, 2026, he would join members of the Board of Peace, where it would be announced that member states had pledged more than $5 billion to support humanitarian efforts and the reconstruction of Gaza. He added that thousands of personnel were assigned to the international stabilization force (ISF) and local police to maintain security in Gaza.The upcoming meeting will mark the first official session for the Board of Peace.Trump called the initiative a turning point for Gaza's  future. The New York Times, citing officials, reported earlier that the United States had pledged over $1 billion to fund the Board's projects in Gaza.A White House official confirmed that the administration expects additional pledges in the coming weeks, noting that Trump's 20-point plan, announced last September and which paved the way for a ceasefire, stipulates that the Board of Peace will manage funding and establish the overall framework for Gaza's  redevelopment. According to sources, a large portion of the financial pledges is designated for humanitarian projects in Gaza, as well as support for the ISF. More than 20 countries have so far joined the Board of Peace launched on Jan 22 by President Donald Trump. The Board's founding charter was signed during a ceremony on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. HE Sheikh Joaan visits OCA headquarters in Kuwait

His Excellency Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad al-Thani paid his first visit to the headquarters of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) in Kuwait Sunday as President. He chaired the 108th meeting of the OCA Executive Board, where the minutes of the previous meeting, held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, on January 26, were approved. The Executive Board members also discussed upcoming 2026 Asian Games, including the 2028 Asian Beach Games in the Philippines and the 2030 Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games in Mongolia. They were also briefed on the latest developments regarding the Afro-Asian Cultural Summit scheduled for March 28 in Kuwait. Sheikh Joaan met with OCA staff and thanked them for their efforts, saying: “I am delighted to be here at the OCA headquarters today. We have a strong team, and each and every one of you is a part of that team. Your hard work is appreciated, especially over the past few years.” He continued: “We have a lot of work ahead of us, and we look forward to achieving even more. We have three Asian Games in 2026, and as the new president, I am confident that everyone here will contribute their expertise to working with all the National Olympic Committees. We have a strong team, but we need to strengthen it further to overcome future challenges together.”  Related Story Source link
