Ash'al Al E'zz of Al Thamer Stud emerged as the Gold champion in the Senior Stallions Championship while Admiraal of Al Amer Stud won Silver and Arraab AlJassimya of AlJassimya Farm got Bronze in the 5th Doha International Arabian Horse Show hosted by Qatar Racing & Equestrian Club (QREC) at the main arena of the Qatar Equestrian Federation from December 19 to 22.The concluding day (Monday) saw the championship finale of six classes. The show featured a total of 222 horses from Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Bahrain.In the Senior Mares Championship class, D Thariah of Al Wajba Stud won Gold, D Razeenah, owned by Mohammed Abdulaziz A Al Rusaini and bred by Dubai Arabian Horse Stud, clinched Silver, and Baynona Al Hawajer, owned by Ghanim MFHM Al Shammari and bred by Dr. Ghanem Mohamed Obaid Al Hajri, the Bronze. North Korea’s Oh Kwang-ok set a new record in the West Asian competitions, part of the combined weightlifting championships (10th Qatar Cup, Arab Championship, and West Asian Championship) currently being held at the Ezdan Palace Hotel. The event, which runs through December 27, 2025, features over 250 athletes from more than 25 countries. In the Women’s 58kg category, the North Korean star secured three gold medals. She took gold in the Snatch (105kg), the Clean & Jerk with a record 133kg, and the Total with a record 238kg. Uzbekistan’s Nigora Abdullaeva claimed three silvers (90kg Snatch, 114kg Clean & Jerk, 204kg Total). Tunisia’s Aya Al-Awadi won two bronzes (100kg Clean & Jerk, 117kg Total), while Turkmenistan’s Zebagul Soyunshova took the Snatch bronze (78kg). The Secretary-General of the Doha-based Arab Network of National Human Rights Institutions (ANNHRIs), Sultan bin Hassan al-Jamali, said that the siege and daily suffering endured by the Palestinian people, along with attempts to erase their identity and rights, place a collective responsibility on all parties to unify efforts, activate international legal mechanisms, and ensure accountability for all human rights violators without exception. Speaking during a ceremony organised by the ANNHRIs to honour Arab League Secretary-General Dr Ahmed Aboul Gheit at the League’s headquarters in Cairo, al-Jamali reaffirmed the network’s commitment to standing by the Palestinian people in their legitimate struggle, working to lift injustice against them, and defending their right to self-determination in a manner that restores the values of freedom and justice and reinforces regional and global peace and security. In this context, the ANNHRIs also organised in Cairo the sixth edition of the “Mohamed Fayek Course” on human rights, in co-operation with Egypt’s National Council for Human Rights. At the opening of the course, the secretary-general stated that national human rights institutions occupy a unique position within the international system, serving as a vital link between the state and civil society on one hand, and between the state and international mechanisms on the other. He added that these institutions play a central role in bridging the gap between international obligations and national practices, ensuring alignment of legislation with human rights standards, issuing recommendations, monitoring their implementation, and engaging constructively with international mechanisms. Al-Jamali noted that the network launched the Mohamed Fayek foundational course six years ago to deepen understanding of these roles, strengthen co-operation among stakeholders, and develop the skills of new members, contributing to the building of a coherent national human rights system and enhancing the capacity of institutions and defenders to influence public policy in line with international standards. For his part, Vice-President of Egypt’s National Council for Human Rights Mahmoud Karem said that naming the annual training course after Mohamed Fayek reflects recognition of him as a comprehensive intellectual school and a source of deep practical expertise that serves as a reference for new generations working in the field of human rights. He added that the course derives particular importance from being held amid a highly complex regional and international context marked by escalating armed conflicts, worsening violations, and deepening economic and social challenges, underscoring the urgent need to prepare young cadres equipped with deep awareness, scientific tools, and the capacity for analysis and responsible action in the field of human rights.  Related Story Source link

Lebanon said three people were killed Monday in a strike near Sidon that Israel said targeted Hezbollah operatives, days ahead of a deadline for Lebanon’s army to disarm the group near the border. Israel has kept up regular strikes on Lebanon, usually saying it is targeting Hezbollah, despite a November 2024 ceasefire that sought to end more than a year of hostilities with the fighter group, which it accuses of rearming. Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency said Monday’s strike on a vehicle was carried out by an Israeli drone around 10 kilometres from the southern coastal city of Sidon and “killed three people who were inside”. The health ministry reported the same toll. Under heavy US pressure and amid fears of expanded Israeli strikes, Lebanon has committed to disarming Hezbollah, starting with the south. The Lebanese army plans to carry out the task south of the Litani River — about 30 kilometres from the border with Israel — by year’s end. The latest strike came after Lebanese and Israeli civilian representatives on Friday took part in a meeting of the ceasefire monitoring committee for a second time, after holding their first direct talks in decades earlier this month, also under the committee’s auspices. The committee comprises representatives from Lebanon, Israel, the US, France and the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (Unifil). Lebanese President Joseph Aoun said Monday that the goal of the negotiations was to “stop the hostilities, achieve Israel’s withdrawal, return prisoners held in Israel and return southern residents to their villages”. Israel has also kept troops in five south Lebanon areas that it deems strategic. “Lebanon awaits positive steps from the Israeli side,” Aoun told visiting Italian Defence Minister Guido Crosetto Monday, a presidency statement said. …
