The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has appointed Malibongwe Maketa as the Bangladesh national cricket team’s assistant coach for a two-year term.
The information was confirmed in a press release issued by the board today (2 October).
Maketa has signed a contract with the BCB from October this year until November 2028. He will join the national team’s coaching panel in the United Arab Emirates.
He replaces former senior assistant coach Mohammad Salahuddin, who was recently appointed head coach of the BCB’s High Performance programme.
Maketa has experience working with national teams as well as developing emerging cricketers. Most recently, he served as head coach of South Africa Under-19s and head coach of the national academy.
The South African coach has also worked with the South Africa A team. Under his guidance, South Africa Emerging won the second division title of the CSA One-Day Cup in the 2023-24 season.
Maketa expressed his excitement about joining Bangladesh’s coaching staff.
“I am delighted to take on the role of assistant coach of the Bangladesh national team. I am grateful for the confidence the BCB has shown in me. I look forward to making a positive contribution to the team’s success,” he said.
Maketa also highlighted his eagerness to work with Bangladesh’s young squad.
“We have a young and promising team. I am looking forward to working with Simmons and the other members of the coaching staff to bring out the best in the players and help them develop,” he said.
