The Bundestag rejected today returning to nuclear energy as an alternative to overcome fuel-related crises, most notably the crisis stemming from the war with Iran and tensions in the Middle East.The Committee on Economic Affairs and Energy in the German parliament said that the proposal to return to peaceful nuclear reactors had been submitted as part of a parliamentary motion by the Alternative for Germany bloc. The committee said in a statement that the proposal was officially rejected after other parliamentary blocs voted against it.The Alternative for Germany bloc had called on the government through the motion to immediately reverse the decision to phase out nuclear energy, halt the dismantling of German nuclear power plants, and make every possible effort to restart the last three nuclear units that were shut down in Germany. The proposal also called for examining the economic and technical conditions required to rebuild nuclear plants that have long been out of operation.  Source link

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Tuesday offered a drone deal to Bahrain as he met with the king of the Gulf island state that has been attacked by Iran.Zelensky has toured the Gulf since the outbreak of the US-Israeli war against Iran, signing defence deals as Kyiv leverages its expertise in fighting Russia and downing its drones, which are based on Iranian technology.’Ukraine is ready to share this security expertise with Bahrain and help strengthen the protection of life,’ Zelensky said in a statement published online after meeting King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.’I proposed signing a Drone Deal and scaling up cooperation with Bahrain, and we agreed that our teams will work out the details,’ he added.Ukraine has signed a string of defence agreements in the region since the Middle East war broke out in late February, including with Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.Ukrainian military experts dispatched by Kyiv have also downed Iranian drones in several Middle Eastern countries.The Gulf nations are being attacked with the same Iranian-designed Shahed drones that Russia fires on Ukraine.’Our country is facing similar terrorist strikes almost every day, and our people have relevant experience in full-scale defense,’ Zelensky said in his statement.He said the pair also discussed opening embassies in each others' countries.US-led talks on ending the Russia-Ukraine war have been sidelined by the Iran conflict.  Source link

US President Donald Trump announced on Tuesday night the suspension of the “Project Freedom” mission in the Strait of Hormuz, citing requests from Pakistan and unnamed nations, as well as progress in peace negotiations with Iran.In a post on the platform Truth Social, Trump said, “Based on the request of Pakistan and other Countries, the tremendous Military Success that we have had during the Campaign against the Country of Iran and, additionally, the fact that Great Progress has been made toward a Complete and Final Agreement with Representatives of Iran, we have mutually agreed that, while the Blockade will remain in full force and effect, Project Freedom (The Movement of Ships through the Strait of Hormuz) will be paused for a short period of time to see whether or not the Agreement can be finalized and signed.”  Related Story Source link

Department of Emergency Management of Hunan Province in China has decided to immediately suspend production at all fireworks factories in the province to conduct a comprehensive safety overhaul aimed at eliminating potential safety hazards.The repair operation came in the aftermath of an explosion on Monday at a fireworks factory in the city of Liuyang, a county-level city under Changsha, the capital of Hunan Province, which resulted in 26 deaths and 61 injuries.Luoyang, a major fireworks manufacturing hub in China, is home to more than 400 fireworks companies whose annual output was projected to exceed 50 billion yuan (about USD 7.29 billion) in 2025.The city’s fireworks account for about 70 percent of China’s total fireworks exports.  Source link

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that Europe needs Turkiye more than Turkiye needs it, adding that it must be recognized that the European Union will not be a global actor and center of attraction without Turkiye's accession.Erdogan pointed out at a press conference following a government meeting that his country was pushed off the EU accession negotiating table for purely political reasons, explaining that they did not find, in subsequent meetings with the Europeans, an encouraging picture that would overcome the current stalemate and move Turkiye-EU relations forward.He stressed that Turkiye, despite all the double standards to which it was exposed, persistently continued its efforts towards full membership, and that it is still intensifying its mutual contacts with the Union's institutions and countries.He added that closer ties would benefit Europe as a whole, stressing that Turkey is an integral part of the continent, and said that the country would pursue this path with patience and dignity, guided by the interests of its people.Turkiye has been an official candidate to join the European Union since 1999, and membership negotiations began in 2005, but the negotiations have been stagnant for about a decade.  Source link

India condemned the recent airstrikes carried out by drones and missiles on Fujairah, on the eastern coast of the United Arab Emirates, which resulted in the injury of three Indian nationals.It described the act as “unacceptable”, calling for an immediate cessation of these hostilities and the targeting of civilian infrastructure.Official Spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs of India affirmed in a statement that India continues to stand for dialogue and diplomacy to deal with the situation, so that peace and stability may be restored across West Asia.”We also call for free and unimpeded navigation and commerce through the Strait of Hormuz in keeping with international law. India stands ready to support all efforts for a peaceful resolution of issues,” the statement added.The Indian Embassy in the United Arab Emirates announced that three Indian nationals were injured in the attacks on Fujairah. It said that their condition is moderate and that they are receiving the necessary medical care in coordination with local authorities, after being injured in a fire that broke out in a petroleum industries area. (AFP) US President Donald Trump said yesterday that US officials were holding “very positive discussions” with Iran over potential steps toward ending the war that has upended the Middle East. “I am fully aware that my Representatives are having very positive discussions with the Country of Iran, and that these discussions could lead to something very positive for all,” Trump posted on his Truth Social platform.Iran’s foreign ministry earlier said that Tehran had submitted a 14-point plan “focused on ending the war” and that Washington had responded to it in a message to Pakistani mediators. Trump also said the United States will escort ships through the Strait of Hormuz from today, claiming that “countries from all over the world” had requested it. “For the good of Iran, the Middle East, and the United States, we have told these Countries that we will guide their Ships safely out of these restricted Waterways, so that they can freely and ably get on with their business,” Trump posted on his Truth Social platform. “This process, Project Freedom, will begin Monday morning, Middle East time.” Earlier, Iran said it had received a US response to its latest offer for peace talks, a ‌day after President Donald Trump said he would probably reject the Iranian proposal because “they have not paid a big enough price”.  Related Story Source link
