Khaled Ahmed takes five in England’s County Championship match

Bangladesh pace bowler Khaled Ahmed claimed five wickets as Kent bowled Lancashire out for 161 on the opening day of their County Championship match in England’s Canterbury yesterday (15 September).

Kent won the toss and opted to field, with Khaled making an immediate impact by opening his spell with three consecutive maidens. He then broke Lancashire’s 81-run opening partnership by dismissing Keaton Jennings for 30.

The right-arm pacer struck again in his next over, removing Rocky Flintoff for a duck to leave Lancashire struggling.

With Khaled and Matt Milnes continuing to take wickets, Lancashire slipped to 82 for 4.

Khaled then claimed his third wicket by dismissing Matty Hurst, who top-scored with 37.

He completed his five-wicket haul in dramatic fashion, dismissing Mitchell Stanley and Lancashire captain James Anderson with consecutive deliveries.

Khaled finished with figures of 5 for 42 from 15.5 overs, including four maidens. Milnes also impressed, taking 4 for 50 as Kent bowled Lancashire out for 161. Michael Jones was Lancashire’s top scorer with 44.

Khaled’s performance comes after fellow Bangladesh pacer Hasan Mahmud was withdrawn by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) from the remainder of his county campaign with Kent.

Khaled has now made a strong impact in the County Championship in his compatriot’s absence.
