HE Minister of Municipality Abdullah bin Hamad bin Abdullah Al Attiyah affirmed that workers across the ministry's various sectors represent the backbone of Qatar's municipal sector, praising their efforts and vital role in serving the community. Marking International Workers' Day, observed annually on May 1, His Excellency noted that workers have consistently demonstrated high levels of efficiency and commitment under various conditions and challenges, with their continued contributions playing a tangible role in supporting comprehensive development, enhancing municipal services, and improving overall performance across sectors. HE the Minister of Municipality expressed his sincere appreciation to all workers, commending their daily efforts across the ministry's sectors and municipalities, which directly contribute to maintaining quality of life and promoting sustainability in Qatar. For his part, Assistant Undersecretary for Public Services Affairs Eng. Abdullah Ahmed Al Karani, said during the ceremony that workers are the true foundation of the ministry's operations, with their daily efforts reflected in city cleanliness, maintenance of facilities, and continuous improvement of service delivery. Kuwait’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed the State of Kuwait’s strong condemnation and denunciation of the criminal Iranian attacks targeting the Kingdom of Bahrain, the Sultanate of Oman, the State of Qatar and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, describing them as a repeated and flagrant escalation, a violation of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of those countries, and a serious breach of international law, the United Nations Charter and UN Security Council Resolution 2,817.In a statement, the ministry affirmed its full solidarity with the sisterly countries and its support for all measures they take to preserve their security and stability and protect their sovereignty.The ministry stressed that the continuation of these practices threatens the security and stability of the region, reiterating its call on Iran to immediately cease these actions, respect the sovereignty of states, and resolve disputes through peaceful means and dialogue. Shamshad Akhtar, the first and only woman to lead Pakistan’s central bank and a two-time caretaker finance minister, died at 71, the finance ministry said Saturday.She was serving as chairperson of the Pakistan Stock Exchange at the time of her death, giving her a rare role spanning Pakistan’s monetary policy, fiscal management and capital markets.Akhtar was governor of the State Bank of Pakistan from 2006-09 and later led the finance ministry in caretaker governments ahead of the 2018 and 2024 general elections.Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb described Akhtar as a principled and dignified voice in Pakistan’s economic history, praising her integrity, professionalism and long public service.”She served the country with honesty and dedication in some of the most senior economic roles,” he said in a statement, offering condolences to her family, friends and colleagues.Local media reported that she died of cardiac arrest.Widely regarded as one of Pakistan’s most internationally experienced economic policymakers, Akhtar also held senior positions, including as vice-president at the World Bank and executive secretary of the UN ESCAP, and previously worked at the Asian Development Bank.Born in Hyderabad, she was educated in Karachi and Islamabad and held degrees from the University of the Punjab, Quaid-e-Azam University, the University of Sussex and the UK’s Paisley College of Technology. The Israeli occupation renewed today its violation of the ceasefire agreement with Gaza as air raids continued on various areas of the strip.WAFA news agency reported today that air raids continue on areas in North and Central Gaza.Since the ceasefire agreement went into effect last Oct. 10, 410 people were martyred, and 1134 others were injured. Israeli occupation’s forces on Saturday arrested eight Palestinians in different towns and villages in the West Bank.Israeli occupation forces arrested eight Palestinians in the town of Dura and the villages of Abda and Marish in the Hebron Governorate of the West Bank after searching their homes, ransacking their belongings, and assaulting them, reported Palestin’s news agency (WAFA).In a separate incident, Israeli forces erected several military checkpoints at the entrances to Hebron, its towns, villages, and refugee camps, and closed a number of main and secondary roads with iron gates and barriers.The occupation forces also imposed a curfew on the neighborhoods of Jaber, Salaymeh, and Wadi Al-Haseen in Hebron, allegedly to secure access for settlers from the so-called Kiryat Arba settlement, whih is built on Palestinian land and property east of Hebron, to the Ibrahimi Mosque.
