Israeli strikes in Gaza killed three people yesterday, the territory’s civil defence agency said, while the military said it had targeted Hamas militants.It is the latest bloodshed to occur in the war-shattered territory despite a US-backed ceasefire which took effect in October 2025, with Israel continuing to target Palestinians it says are militants. One man died after succumbing to his injuries following an Israeli drone strike on a house in Al-Shati refugee camp, west of Gaza City, according to the civil defence agency, which operates as a rescue force under Hamas. Another man was killed in an Israeli strike on his tent in the Al-Mawasi area east of Khan Yunis in southern Gaza, the civil defence agency said. A third person was killed and several others injured in an Israeli strike near an intersection in western Gaza City.When contacted by AFP, the Israeli military confirmed it had carried out strikes against “Hamas terrorists” in those areas, without giving further details. Israel’s army chief Lieutenant General Eyal Zamir on Tuesday vowed to push on with demilitarising Gaza and disarming Hamas “using all necessary means”, despite recent efforts by the United States to advance the ceasefire. The Israeli military has said that it will keep pursuing alleged perpetrators of Hamas’s October 7, 2023 attack that sparked the war. Israeli operations in Gaza have killed at least 1,303 people since the ceasefire came into effect, according to Gaza’s health ministry, which also operates under Hamas authority and whose figures are considered reliable by the United Nations. The Israeli army has reported five deaths in its ranks over the same period, as well as one civilian contractor.  Source link

US President Donald Trump said yesterday that Russian President Vladimir Putin will not attack a Nato country, and he played down media reports that CIA Director John Ratcliffe warned Russian officials against such an attack earlier in the week. “He’s not going to attack a Nato territory,” Trump said of the Russian leader while speaking to reporters in the Oval Office. Earlier in the day, Trump told Axios in a phone interview that there would be no such attack, and that Ratcliffe, who flew to Russia on Tuesday to meet briefly with intelligence counterparts, had not been dispatched to deliver any particular message. “Ratcliffe sees his Russian counterpart once every six months or once every year. They have a very good relationship. There was no message and there was nothing unusual,” Trump told the news outlet.Trump’s comments came after the Wall Street Journal reported on Wednesday that Ratcliffe had travelled to Moscow to warn Russia off any attack on a Nato member. Two sources familiar with the matter told Reuters that Ratcliffe did bring up the possibility of a Russian operation against a Nato member during that meeting, though it was unclear if that was the sole purpose of the trip. One source said they discussed several topics, including Russia’s support for Iran, which has proven an irritant for the US The sources were granted anonymity to discuss US intelligence. European and US intelligence officials have long monitored Russian sabotage and gray zone attacks in Europe that fall below the threshold of full-on war and which are generally aimed at weakening Nato’s unity and its member states’ willingness to support Ukraine against Russian aggression.  Source link
