Snapchat announced a new feature that allows users to interact with AI Sponsored Snaps within the app’s chat interface.The app explained that a new feature called AI Sponsored Snaps will now appear as messages within the chat section, allowing users to ask questions and receive responses and recommendations from AI agents linked to brands.Snapchat added that the AI Sponsored Snaps feature represents a shift in in-app advertising, moving it from traditional display to an interactive, conversation-based model, at a time when the use of AI tools is witnessing increasing expansion on social media platforms.It pointed out that this step comes in light of the widespread use of the chat interface within the application, as it has been shown that more than 500 million users have interacted with the chatbot since its launch in 2023, and that about 85% of users regularly engage in chat, while more than 950 billion chats were sent during the first quarter of 2026.Snapchat expects this move to expand AI use within the app while further integrating it into the daily user experience.  Source link

International organizations warned that the escalating hunger crisis in South Sudan will push 7.8 million people into high levels of acute food insecurity between April and July 2026.The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the World Food Programme (WFP), and United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) stated in their latest Integrated Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) report that this figure represents 56 percent of the total population and is among the highest levels of acute food insecurity currently recorded globally.The report explained that 73,300 people are facing the “catastrophe” phase (Phase 5 of the IPC, the most severe level of acute food insecurity), adding that this figure represents a staggering 160 percent increase compared to previous estimates.It also noted that 2.5 million people are living in the “emergency” phase (Phase 4 of the IPC), while 5.3 million people are living in the “crisis” phase (Phase 3 of the IPC).The three UN agencies stated that this crisis is exacerbated by escalating conflicts, mass displacement, economic decline, climate shocks, flooding, and below-normal agricultural production levels, which contribute to reduced food availability and limit families’ ability to access sufficient food.The IPC report is a global initiative involving UN agencies, regional partners, and aid organizations. It classifies food insecurity into five phases, with famine being the most severe. Data released by the Statistical Centre for the Cooperation Council for the Arab Countries of the Gulf (GCC-Stat) indicate that the number of Healthy Cities across GCC countries has reached 53, reflecting the continuous expansion in adopting the Healthy Cities concept as an integrated framework linking urban planning with public health.According to the Centre, GCC health authorities affirm that the Healthy Cities initiative represents a practical embodiment of the philosophy of integrating health into all aspects of daily life, noting that digital transformation and health innovation have become key pillars in advancing healthcare systems across the region.Efforts across GCC countries continue to intensify to strengthen the region’s position as a leading model in developing healthcare systems, and to achieve integration between health and development policies in a manner that enhances societal well-being.According to GCC-Stat data, mortality rates attributed to air pollution in GCC countries range between 16 and 45 deaths per 100,000 population.GCC countries also recorded very low rates in mortality attributed to unsafe water, sanitation, or lack of hygiene, with the highest recorded value not exceeding 0.1 deaths per 100,000 population.Similarly, mortality rates due to unintentional poisoning remained minimal, with the highest value not exceeding 0.4 deaths per 100,000 population. The prevalence of tobacco use among individuals aged 15 years and above in GCC countries ranged between 8% and 18.9%, with the upper bound approaching the global average of 20.9%.  Source link

Prestigious youth tournament returns to Qatar thisNovember for the second of five consecutive annual editions  FIFA and the Local Organising Committee for Football Events (LOC) have announced that the FIFA U-17 World Cup Qatar 2026 will take place from 19 November to 13 December. The prestigious youth tournament returns to Qatar, marking the second of five consecutive editions that the country will host annually through 2029. Following a landmark 2025 tournament that saw Qatar hosting the first ever FIFA competition to feature 48 teams, this year’s edition will continue the expanded format, welcoming tomorrow’s stars to compete for the coveted trophy.  A total of 48 teams will qualify for the FIFA U-17 World Cup Qatar 2026, with the final draw scheduled for 21 May in Zurich, Switzerland. Matches will be held at the state-of-the-art Competition Complex in Aspire Zone, which will once again transform into a vibrant football hub for fans and players. The tournament’s centralised hosting concept formed the cornerstone of the fan experience in 2025, with more than 197,460 spectators in attendance across 104 matches over 15 match days. A total of 130 football scouts from leading football clubs around the world also benefitted from the venue’s compact nature, allowing them to observe talents from a single venue.  With the 2025 edition serving as a launch pad for rising stars, such as Egypt’s Hamza Abdelkarim, Mali’s Seydou Dembélé,Belgium’s Jesse Bisiwu and Nathan De Cat, and Italy’s Samuele Inacio among many others, all eyes will now be on the next generation of talents at the 2026 edition.   The FIFA U-17 World Cup Qatar 2026 Final will be held at the renowned Khalifa International Stadium, where Portugal was crowned champions last year in front of 38,901 spectators.  This year, Khalifa International Stadium marks 50 years since its inauguration in 1976.  As part of its illustrious legacy, the venue has hosted several premier sporting events, including matches of the historic FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. The stadium is set to host the Amir Cup Final 2026 on 9 May.  For all information related to the FIFA U-17 World Cup Qatar 2026 follow @RoadtoQatar on Instagram and X.
