Doha College alumna elected new Oxford Union president

Netflix to buy Warner Bros Discovery’s studios, streaming unit for $72 billion

United Nations Interim Force condemns Israeli airstrikes on Southern Lebanon

The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) condemned the Israeli airstrikes on southern Lebanon, describing them as “a clear violation” of UN Security Council Resolution 1701.In a statement issued on Friday, UNIFIL called on the Israeli army to make use of the established liaison and coordination mechanisms, warning against any actions that could further escalate the situation.Separately, the peacekeeping force reported that one of its patrols had come under fire near Bint Jbeil, with no injuries reported. UNIFIL affirmed that it continues to monitor and report on developments on the ground.The UN peacekeeping mission in Lebanon also urged full adherence to Resolution 1701 and to the understandings reached to date, to safeguard the progress achieved so far. Macron calls for continued Ukraine Support

French President Emmanuel Macron today called for continuing the war-effort support for Ukraine and increasing pressure on the Russian economy, reaffirming the importance of unifying the positions of Europeans and Americans in this regard, during a speech he delivered on a visit to China.Macron added that efforts must continue to support the war and that pressure should be increased, particularly on the Russian economy, while emphasizing the need for unity between Americans and Europeans on the Ukrainian issue.He also stressed the importance of not yielding to any division between the European and American sides, noting that there is a strong need for the United States to achieve peace, and that the United States also needs Europe to ensure the sustainability of that peace.Chinese President Xi Jinping and his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron had previously affirmed the need to overcome differences and to promote the establishment of a stable partnership between the two countries.  Source link

Egypt, Russia Foreign Ministers discuss Gaza, international developments

Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty discussed in a phone call today with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov the developments in the Gaza Strip, regional and international issues of mutual concern, as well as ways to enhance bilateral relations.The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement that Abdelatty stressed during the call the importance of implementing UN Security Council Resolution 2803 and moving forward with the second phase of US President Donald Trumpâ€s peace plan, noting the necessity of enabling the International Stabilization Force to carry out its tasks in order to consolidate the ceasefire in Gaza. Regarding developments in Sudan, the Egyptian Foreign Minister reviewed the efforts exerted by his country within the framework of the Quad Mechanism to stop the conflict and preserve the unity and integrity of the Sudanese state. On the Iranian nuclear issue, the Egyptian Foreign Minister emphasized the importance of continuing efforts aimed at de-escalation, confidence-building, and creating conditions that provide a genuine opportunity for diplomatic solutions and the resumption of dialogue, with the goal of reaching a comprehensive agreement on the nuclear issue that takes into account the interests of all parties and contributes to achieving regional security and stability.  In terms of the latest developments in the Ukrainian crisis, Abdelatty reiterated Egyptâ€s steadfast position, calling for continued efforts to reach peaceful settlements to crises through dialogue and diplomatic means in a manner that preserves security and stability.  Source link

Coach Abu Jazar hails Palestine’s fighting spirit in draw against Tunisia

Glory Of The Stars extended her perfect season with a breath-taking performance in the Lusail Cup for three-year-old+ Thoroughbred fillies and mares over 1200m yesterday.At the Al Uqda turf track, the five-year-old bay mare, owned by Eng. Hassan Ali Alabdulmalik and trained by Debbie Mountain, was still last approaching the final 300m before unleashing a devastating outside run. Under a well-timed ride from Jefferson Smith, she swept past the entire field to secure a commanding 1¼-length victory, making it two wins from two starts this season.Glory Of The Stars delivered a breath-taking late surge to win the day’s feature race, contested by 12 runners. The five-year-old bay mare, racing for Hassan Ali Alabdulmalik, trained by Debbie Mountain and superbly handled by Jefferson Smith, remained unbeaten this season, securing her second win from as many starts with a commanding 1¼-length success.Breaking from barrier seven, Glory Of The Stars was dropped out early and settled at the tail of the field where she remained for most of the contest. Up front, Kaliysta took the early initiative before Seduisante moved forward approaching the first bend.Around the final turn, Ripple Effect, who had been travelling in third, briefly edged to a narrow lead as the field closed tightly together. Yet the moment belonged entirely to Glory Of The Stars. Still last at the 300m mark, she switched wide and unleashed a devastating turn of foot, sweeping past her rivals with a powerful, sustained run. Under a perfectly timed ride from Smith, she surged clear in the final strides to seal a stylish and authoritative victory.Behind her, September Leaves, carrying the Al Eida Racing silks for trainer Jassim al-Ghazali under Marco Casamento, finished strongly to claim second. Just a quarter of a length behind came Nano Toro, representing the same connections as the winner and ridden by Mohammed Hassan Ali Alabdulmalik, securing third after a late flourish.  Source link
