Morocco’s foreign minister Nasser Bourita met with UK Minister of State for Business and Trade Chris Bryant, who is currently visiting Morocco.During the meeting, bilateral relations between the two countries were discussed.Bryant clarified in a press statement following the talks that the volume of trade exchanges between the two countries currently stands at about £4.5 billion, expressing hope that this figure would double over the next five to seven years. Uganda’s Ministry of Health announced six new cases of Ebola, bringing the total number of laboratory-confirmed cases in the country to 15 since the disease outbreak began in neighbouring Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).The ministry reported one death from the virus in Uganda so far, noting that it is making strenuous efforts to prevent the disease from spreading further.In the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), authorities have reported 321 confirmed cases and 48 deaths from the disease, in addition to 116 suspected cases that have not yet undergone laboratory testing.The World Health Organization (WHO) stated that the number of suspected cases in eastern Congo has decreased after testing the remaining samples, while also emphasising that the decline in numbers does not necessarily mean the outbreak is under control.WHO spokesperson Christian Lindmeier said that the increase in the number of suspected cases may reflect improvements in surveillance and early detection, and indicates that people experiencing symptoms are seeking medical care.The World Health Organization announced in early May that the Ebola outbreak in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo likely began about two months before it was discovered, confirming the spread of the rare Bundibugyo virus. India and the United States are close to finalising the first phase of a bilateral trade agreement after months of negotiations, according to India’s Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal.Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Goyal said that 99% of the issues had been resolved as a new US delegation arrived in New Delhi for three additional days of talks.India and the United States have been negotiating the trade deal for several months amid tensions over tariffs and US sanctions targeting buyers of Russian oil.In February, the two countries set a goal of increasing annual bilateral trade to $500 billion by 2030. However, negotiations became more complicated following disputes over US tariff policies.Last year, US President Donald Trump imposed tariffs of up to 50% on Indian imports in response to New Delhi’s continued purchases of Russian crude oil.Washington later suspended the measures in March amid concerns over rising global fuel prices linked to the conflict in the Middle East.Despite those tensions, both sides have continued discussions aimed at deepening economic ties and expanding trade cooperation.  The United Nations Human Rights Office in the Occupied Palestinian Territory condemned the escalation of Israeli occupation attacks in the Gaza Strip, warning of continued grave violations of international humanitarian law and a worsening humanitarian situation, particularly for children.The ongoing blockade depraves the population of basic necessities, including adequate shelter, medicine, and food supplies, while the the occupation’s attacks in Gaza violate international humanitarian law principles relating to distinction, proportionality, and the taking of precautions during military operations, the UN office warned in a press statement.The majority of Gaza’s population is living in a state of displacement within less than half of the territory’s area, amid the continuation of Israeli ground operations and military expansion westward. These developments are forcing further displacement of families and pushing them into increasingly confined areas, with new displacement orders issued in recent days compelling residents to leave their places of shelter, the office added.Concerns over the commission of war crimes in Gaza remain unchanged with the continued military attacks against a population living under chronic displacement and widespread destruction of infrastructure including the health, education, food production, and civil systems, said Head of UN Human Rights in the Occupied Palestinian Territory Ajith Sunghay.  Source link

Israel’s large-scale military escalation in Lebanon, coupled with the forced displacement of hundreds of thousands of civilians and the systematic destruction of villages, towns, and civilian objects, is deeply alarming, Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor said in a press release.”These developments raise serious concerns about efforts to impose new geographic and security realities by force, in violation of international humanitarian law and international human rights law. They require urgent international action to halt the attacks and ensure accountability for those responsible,” it added.Euro-Med Monitor said that the Israeli attacks on Lebanon since March 2, 2026, have killed approximately 3,380 people and injured more than 10,150 others, according to official figures.”The ground incursions and evacuation orders have been part of a widespread campaign of destruction targeting Lebanese border villages and towns. Israeli forces have used explosives and land clearing to level residential areas, infrastructure, and key facilities, significantly changing the landscape and making these areas uninhabitable. This appears to be a punitive strategy designed to prevent civilians from returning, impacting their ability to restore or maintain their livelihoods, social stability, and means of survival,” Euro-Med Monitor said.It pointed out that the global tendency to issue statements of concern and condemnation as mere platitudes, without implementing practical deterrent measures or accountability mechanisms, fosters a culture of systemic impunity, adding that this approach weakens the effectiveness of international law in safeguarding civilians and preventing further serious violations.Euro-Med Monitor stressed that a complete ban on the transfer or export of arms and ammunition to Israel must be enforced, especially when there’s a risk that these weapons could be used to commit serious violations of international humanitarian law.Euro-Med Monitor also urges action to strengthen the humanitarian response and to provide adequate funding for emergency relief plans, ensuring that the essential needs of displaced persons are met and that their means of survival are protected amid the sharp deterioration of humanitarian conditions in Lebanon.Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor called on the international community to activate universal jurisdiction to prevent perpetrators of serious violations in Lebanon from enjoying impunity. It also urges the Office of the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court and independent UN bodies to promptly monitor and document crimes in Lebanon, such as forced displacement, indiscriminate or disproportionate attacks, unjustified property destruction, and the establishment of long-term military realities. They must also identify individual criminal responsibility to lay the groundwork for a justice process that provides redress for victims and addresses the breakdown of international accountability amid serious Israeli violations.  Source link

 European Union health ministers will hold an extraordinary meeting on Friday to discuss the developments of the Ebola outbreak in Central Africa.The meeting, which will be held via videoconference and was announced by the Cypriot Presidency of the European Union, is scheduled to discuss further preparedness measures and coordination among member states regarding the virus.The World Health Organization (WHO) had previously declared the disease outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda a Public Health Emergency of International Concern. A concert by the US rapper Kanye West, who was supposed to perform on July 18 in Reggio Emilia in northern Italy, has been banned on public safety grounds, the authorities said.The prefect of the province, Salvatore Angieri, said the decision was made following requests from bodies including the local Jewish community.They had “expressed reservations” about the appearance of the rapper as part of the Pulse of Gaia Festival, the statement released on Friday evening said.Another concert by the US rapper Travis Scott on July 17 has also been scrapped.”The decision… was taken for reasons of protection of public order and safety, in view of the close timing of the events and the large crowd expected within a 24-hour period,” the prefecture said.”In the overall assessment, the cancellation of previous concerts by the American rapper in other countries and the concrete risk of counter-demonstration also weighed in.”  Source link
