Data issued by the Statistical Center for the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf revealed that the Council countries achieved a remarkable milestone in the field of immunization, as the coverage rate for essential vaccines reached 100 percent during 2024, compared to approximately 84 percent globally. This reflects the efficiency of national immunization programs and the strength of public health systems in the GCC countries.The data provided in the weekly bulletin issued on the occasion of World Health Day 2026 indicates that the GCC countries continue to bolster their leading role in supporting global health through investment in medical research and development, and by expanding access to affordable medicines and vaccines. This confirms that continuous investment in health infrastructure and the strengthening of international cooperation represent the cornerstone of Gulf health policies to achieve universal health coverage and ensure a sustainable, healthy future for all.In the context of supporting international health efforts, the volume of the GCC countries' contribution to financing the health sector and medical research within Official Development Assistance (ODA) reached approximately US$842.7 million during 2023. This represents about 4.6 percent of the total international development assistance, providing a clear indicator of these countries' commitment to enhancing global health and transferring medical knowledge.The bulletin emphasizes that these efforts come within the framework of achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly the third goal concerned with ensuring healthy lives and promoting well-being for all at all ages, with a focus on supporting scientific research as a primary pillar for improving the quality of health services.Furthermore, the GCC countries highlight their role as active partners in supporting developing nations by contributing to the development of health systems and enhancing their capacities to face health challenges, in addition to ensuring that essential medicines and vaccines reach various population groups.  Source link

Media heads, journalists and communication experts from across the Islamic world gathered at the XVII International Economic Forum “Russia–Islamic World: Kazan Forum” to discuss the growing role of new technologies in journalism and the challenges posed by artificial intelligence, deepfakes and digital misinformation. The media forum, titled “Heritage Code: The Digital Evolution of Meanings”, focused on how modern technologies can be used to preserve cultural and spiritual heritage while safeguarding the integrity of information.Opening the discussion, Marat Gatin, Assistant to the Rais of the Republic of Tatarstan and Deputy Chairman of the Russia–Islamic World Strategic Vision Group, stressed the importance of using technological advancements responsibly.“Currently, the question also arises of how to use the opportunities of modern achievements for the benefit of preserving our cultural and spiritual heritage,” Gatin said, expressing hope that the forum would contribute to finding solutions to this challenge.He noted that information cooperation between Russia and countries of the Islamic world continues to expand, adding that Kazan Forum has become a leading platform for discussing new media approaches and technologies.Aidar Salimgaraev, head of Tatmedia Republican Agency for Press and Mass Communications, said changing audience preferences are reshaping traditional communication formats, making it essential for media organisations to adapt to new trends while protecting national and cultural identity.“This year, about 400 journalists from 29 countries came to Kazan Forum. This indicates a high interest in the event all over the world,” he said.Participants discussed the opportunities created by artificial intelligence alongside concerns about misinformation and digital manipulation.Tarek Ladjal, head of the Information Department at the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), warned about the increasing spread of deepfakes and distorted information in the digital era.“We are not just fighting against fakes, but we advocate for the integrity of information,” he said, adding that many OIC countries remain concerned about the security of their history, values and digital sovereignty.Ladjal called for continuous improvement in media literacy and urged journalists to strengthen their knowledge of artificial intelligence technologies and large databases.He also stressed the importance of international cooperation to protect the information space from what he described as “digital vandalism”, while emphasising that journalism must remain human-centred despite rapid technological advances.Muhammad Al-Yami, Director-General of the Union of News Agencies of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, said Kazan was a symbolic venue for discussions on preserving heritage through technology because of its historical and cultural significance.He highlighted the union’s efforts to integrate artificial intelligence into media work, including the launch of the “Smart Editor” programme for content creation and training initiatives for journalists across the Islamic world.Al-Yami also praised the contribution of Tatmedia Republican Agency for Press and Mass Communications for supporting the organisation’s media initiatives and events.Among the proposals discussed during the forum were the establishment of regular meetings for media leaders from OIC countries, the creation of a Global South journalists’ network, and the development of ethical standards governing the use of artificial intelligence in journalism.   Source link

Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam has said his country has had enough “reckless” wars for foreign interests, calling for Arab and international support in Beirut’s negotiations with Israel. Speaking at an non-governmental organisation (NGO) dinner on Friday, Salam said that he hoped to “mobilise all Arab and international support to bolster our position in the negotiations” with Israel, shortly after the last round of talks ended and extended the ongoing truce for 45 days. In an implicit rebuke to Hezbollah, which joined the Middle East war in support of Iran on March 2, Salam said the country had “enough of these reckless adventures serving foreign projects or interests, the latest being a war we did not choose but was forced upon us, which led to Israel occupying 68 towns and villages”. “And after all this, with all the killing, destruction, displacement, and tragedies (the war) brought, someone comes along trying to insult our intelligence and calls it a victory,” he added, also hinting at Hezbollah. “Enough with the incitement and accusations of treason; this will not and cannot intimidate us.”   Source link

Qatari driver Nasser Saleh al-Attiyah claimed victory in the 43rd Jordan International Rally, the third round of the 2026 Middle East Rally Championship (MERC), held in the Dead Sea region.Al Attiyah dominated the rally from start to finish, winning all 12 special stages across the Dead Sea and Jordan Valley areas to repeat the clean sweep he last achieved in 2016.The victory marked al-Attiyah’s second consecutive Jordan International Rally title and his record-extending 18th triumph in the event from 23 career appearances.It was also the 92nd MERC victory of al-Attiyah’s career as the Qatari star targets a record 21st Middle East Rally Championship title since first winning the championship in 2003, further cementing his status as the most successful driver in the history of the series.Driving a Skoda Fabia RS Rally2 alongside Spanish co-driver Candido Carrera, al-Attiyah completed the rally in a total time of 2:14:26.1 hours, finishing 3 minutes and 53.7 seconds ahead of his nearest challenger, Oman’s Abdullah al-Rawahi and Jordanian co-driver Ata al-Hmoud, who drove a Škoda Fabia R5 and finished in 2:18:19.8 hours.  Related Story Source link
