QFA supports the delivery of FIFA World Cup 2026

The Qatar Football Association (QFA) is taking part in delivering the FIFA World Cup 2026, with several of its staff managing match operations as part of a knowledge and expertise transfer programme between the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC) and FIFA. The programme draws on the organisational experience Qatar gained from hosting the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and other major international tournaments. QFA staff are taking on key roles at several stadiums, including overseeing operations and coordinating with participating teams, helping to deliver a seamless match experience in line with FIFA standards.  Abdulla Mohammed Jassim Al IshaqDeputy Match DirectorNew York New Jersey Stadium Abdulla Mohammed Jassim Al Ishaq is taking part as Deputy Match Director at New York New Jersey Stadium, leading operational activities and overseeing the stadium’s readiness to host fixtures in line with FIFA requirements. His role includes managing team arrival and match coordination meetings, collaborations with participating teams and various operational bodies, as well as following up on pre-match ceremonies, pitch management, dressing rooms and match official facility readiness.  Ali Hamoud Al NuaimiMatch CommissionerHouston Stadium Ali Hamoud Al Nuaimi is serving as Match Commissioner at Houston Stadium, overseeing all organisational aspects of the match and monitoring proceedings and ensuring all parties comply with tournament regulations and FIFA requirements. He is also responsible for documenting events related to the match and preparing official match reports.  Abdulla Al AnsariMatch CoordinatorHouston Stadium Abdulla Al Ansari is working as Match Coordinator at Houston Stadium, liaising between teams and tournament management, running coordination meetings, ensuring the readiness of dressing rooms and other facilities, and managing team schedules from arrival at the stadium through to departure.  Ahmed Al SayedMatch CoordinatorMiami Stadium Ahmed Al Sayed is serving as Match Coordinator at Miami Stadium, handling team logistics and ensuring compliance with tournament regulations. His responsibilities also include reviewing and approving player and technical staff lists, overseeing team schedules, and coordinating with match officials, the match commissioner, media, security and the anti-doping team. This participation reflects the growing trust placed in Qatari professionals on the international stage, and the talent Qatar continues to build through its experience organising major global events. Fleet of 10 Japan-related ships exit Hormuz, data shows

A fleet of 10 Japan-linked ‌vessels was exiting the Strait ​of Hormuz ‌on Monday while a supertanker carrying ‌Saudi ⁠crude ‌for South Korea ‌left over the weekend, shipping data on ⁠LSEG showed, after the ships were stranded in the Gulf for months because of the Iran war. The Japan-linked ships include six very large crude carriers loaded with ​12 million barrels of Middle Eastern crude, two chemical tankers, a vehicle carrier and ‌a container ship, ⁠the data showed. ​ The tankers are carrying crudes ​from Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Qatar that were loaded in late February to early March. Most of the vessels are managed by Japanese shipper Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) which had said it would prioritise the safety of ‌its seafarers, cargo ‌and vessels ⁠when traversing the strait. Mitsui OSK declined to ⁠comment. Separately, ⁠South Korean refiner S-Oil said on Monday that the VLCC Long Wind carrying oil for its refinery exited the strait on Saturday. The vessel, loaded ​with 2 million barrels of Saudi crude in early March, is expected to arrive at Onsan, South Korea, on July 26, LSEG data showed. Qatar U-18 basketball team to hold training camp in Turkiye

The Qatar U-18 National basketball team has departed for Yalova, Turkiye, to begin a training camp running from 6 to 15 July 2026. This camp marks the final stage of preparations for the Gulf U-18 Championship, which will be hosted in Doha from 17 to 22 July, serving as a qualifier for the FIBA Asia U-18 Championship. Organized under the Qatar Basketball Federation’s development plan, the camp aims to enhance the players’ technical and physical readiness, while providing the coaching staff with an opportunity to finalize the best lineup ahead of official competition. The program includes four friendly matches against Turkish clubs and the Turkiye U-18 national team, designed to give the players strong competitive exposure, improve team cohesion, and assess tactical readiness before returning to Doha. The delegation is headed by Khalid Ahmed al-Mughni. The technical staff is led by Turkish coach Cengiz Karadağ, assisted by Abdo Al-Harji, Hashim Zaidan, and Mounir Ben Ghalla, with Kenan as fitness coach and Saif Al-Din Al-Hamandi as physiotherapist. The administrative staff includes Omar Ahmed and Ayoub Lotfi. The squad features 11 players: Tamim Ashraf Abu Issa, Meshaal Khalid Al-Mughni, Moaz Omar Mousa, Azzam Mohammed Yaken, Ziyad Tamer Al-Johari, Mohammed Saeed Badri, Mahmoud Tamer Ibrahim, Amer Ibrahim Mousa, Owen Ikina, Youssef Walid Abdelqader, and Shahi Mohammed. The Gulf U-18 Championship will be staged at Al-Gharafa Sports Hall, with five teams competing: Qatar, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, and Oman. The top three finishers will qualify directly for the FIBA Asia U-18 Championship, to be held in India in August 2026. The continental championship carries significant importance as it serves as the qualifying stage for the FIBA U-19 Basketball World Cup, with the top four teams from Asia securing places in the global tournament, scheduled to take place in the Czech Republic. At least 19 suspected heat-related deaths reported as heatwave grips New Jersey

US authorities have reported at least 19 suspected heat-related deaths in New Jersey following a days-long heatwave that swept across the state.New Jersey officials said the suspected fatalities have been recorded since Thursday, with most occurring in the state’s central and northern regions.State Health Commissioner Dr. Raynard Washington said many of the victims were found in homes without air conditioning, while others were discovered outdoors or inside parked vehicles.Governor Mikie Sherrill described the heatwave as the most severe to hit New Jersey in more than 14 years, warning that its dangers extend beyond older adults and people with underlying health conditions to residents of all ages.The heatwave coincided with severe storms that swept across parts of the United States, leaving nearly one million homes and businesses without power.  Source link
