French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot called on Israel to comply with the protocol of the agreement signed between the United States and Iran, which provides for an end to the conflict in the Middle East, including Lebanon.Barrot said the agreement requires a cessation of hostilities and stressed that the Israeli government should abide by it, adding that the United States should exert the necessary pressure to ensure compliance. He also downplayed the postponement of talks that had been scheduled to begin in Switzerland between the United States and Iran to implement the agreement reached on Wednesday, saying the delay should not be overinterpreted as long as the agreement had already been signed in Versailles.Barrot emphasized that the priority now is for discussions, including technical-level talks, to continue in order to activate the initial stages of the agreement.Meanwhile, Israeli airstrikes on southern Lebanon early today killed 18 people and injured 33 others, according to preliminary figures released by the Lebanese Ministry of Health, despite the ceasefire that entered into force under the US-Iran memorandum of understanding. The G7 welcomed the announcement of an agreement between the United States and Iran.In a statement issued at the conclusion of its summit in France, the group said it welcomed the agreement reached between Washington and Tehran, with the support of mediating countries, considering it an important opportunity to enhance security and stability in the Middle East, and affirming its readiness to contribute to its implementation. The G7 leaders also expressed support for reaching a comprehensive diplomatic agreement following the memorandum of understanding between the United States and Iran, with the aim of promoting peace and security across the region. The G7 further welcomed the “independent multinational defensive initiative” led by France and the United Kingdom to facilitate the resumption of maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, considering it capable of playing an important role in safeguarding commercial vessels, reassuring shipping companies, and supporting efforts to verify the removal of all mines from the strategic waterway. The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said that some displaced families in Lebanon have begun cautiously returning to their homes following the announcement of the agreement between the United States and Iran.In a statement, OCHA said that approximately 2,700 people in South Lebanon left collective shelters on Monday, noting that it remains unclear whether these movements represent a temporary return to assess homes and property or a permanent return. The statement added that the number of displaced people residing in collective shelters has decreased by about 10,000 over the past four days, from approximately 134,000 on Friday to about 124,000 as of Tuesday evening. The office noted that although the intensity of violence has declined since Sunday, reports of incidents in southern Lebanon continue to emerge, directly affecting residents' ability to inspect their homes and move freely. It added that the presence of unexploded ordnance remains a major concern. In this regard, the office renewed its call for the protection of civilians and for ensuring a safe, voluntary and informed return, supported by the provision of sustained humanitarian assistance.
