Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi called on Pakistan to intensify its mediation efforts between the United States and Iran, and to contribute to effectively addressing issues related to the opening of the Strait of Hormuz. This came during a phone call between Wang, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan Mohammad Ishaq Dar. Dar briefed Wang on Pakistan’s recent mediation efforts to facilitate talks between Iran and the US. He also expressed hope to strengthen coordination with China to play a joint positive role in maintaining regional peace and stability, extending his appreciation for China’s support for Pakistan’s efforts to promote dialogue. Wang reaffirmed China’s principled position, praising Pakistan’s role in facilitating US-Iran talks and extending the temporary ceasefire. He expressed hope that Pakistan would maintain its confidence and contribute to restoring regional peace as soon as possible, which is also what the international community aspires to. China will continue to support Pakistan’s mediation efforts and will make its own contributions in this regard, Wang added. Germany’s automotive industry could lose about 35,000 more jobs than previously forecast, the president of the German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA) Hildegard Muller said.In remarks on Wednesday, Muller expressed regret over the outlook, noting that current estimates indicate up to 225,000 jobs could be lost by 2035.About 100,000 jobs had already been lost between 2019 and 2025, she added. The VDA had previously forecast that 190,000 jobs would be cut between 2019 and 2035.Suppliers would be particularly affected, as the shift from combustion-engine vehicles to electric mobility is leading to significant job losses in the supply sector, Muller said.She also blamed what she described as a “serious and persistent competitiveness crisis” in Germany and Europe for the worsening outlook.”Conditions are deteriorating noticeably”, Muller said, citing higher taxes and levies, expensive energy, high labour costs and excessive bureaucracy among the challenges facing the automotive industry.  Source link

The Lebanese National News Agency (NNA) said Tuesday that six people were killed and seven others injured as Israeli attacks on southern Lebanon continued. It said that Israel launched an airstrike on an inhabited house in Kfar Dounine in southern Lebanon, killing six people and injuring seven others, in addition to carrying out two more strikes on the town of Srifa. The agency added that Israeli artillery shelling targeted the outskirts of the towns of Al Mansouri and Majdal Zoun. Warplanes also carried out a series of airstrikes on towns.   Related Story Source link
