 Turkey increased its imports of diesel from the US and India in August to record levels, shipping data showed, as a Russian ban on diesel exports and wider disruption caused by the Iran war prompted its importers to diversify their sources of supply. So far this month, Turkey has imported more than 120,000 barrels per day of Indian diesel, while its imports from the US reached 90,000 bpd, according to commodities data firm Kpler. These volumes are the highest monthly totals on record, according to Kpler data going back to 2017. Russia has banned exports of diesel until at least the end of August after Ukrainian strikes on refineries disrupted domestic supplies. Middle Eastern supplies have been curbed by war damage to the region’s oil refineries and reduced shipping through the Strait of Hormuz. “With Russian refinery disruptions and export restrictions, Turkey is having to scramble for barrels from the non-Russian pool,” Sparta Commodities analyst Abhishek Kumar said.Energy Aspects, which also provides data on energy flows, estimated India sent a smaller amount of 74,000 bpd to Turkey in August and that the US shipped 70,000 bpd. Still, these are the highest since 2022 and 2019 respectively based on EA data. Turkey’s imports of Russian diesel declined to around 100,000 bpd in July and 80,000 bpd in August, having held above 200,000 bpd in the earlier months of this year since January, Kpler data showed. This reduced Russia’s share of Turkey’s diesel imports to 20% in August. In 2025, Russia supplied 85% of Turkey’s diesel imports with 281,000 bpd, according to Turkey’s energy regulator. Russia may extend the diesel exports ban into September, according to industry sources.  Related Story Source link

Pakistan captain Babar Azam has said he is “90 percent fit” as he returns to lead his country in the second Test against England at Lord’s. Azam missed last week’s series opener at Headingley because of a finger injury, with the tourists thrashed by an innings and 103 runs in his absence as England went 1-0 up in a three-match campaign.The 31-year-old Azam was hit on the glove while batting during a warm-up match, compounding a finger injury initially sustained during Pakistan’s recent tour of the West Indies. But he has been back batting in the nets during the past 48 hours and the experienced batsman is now set to strengthen a Pakistan side dismissed for just 171 and 135 in Leeds when the second Test gets underway on Thursday.”I’ve had a couple of practice sessions again and I’m 90 percent fit for the match tomorrow,” Azam told a pre-match press conference at Lord’s on Wednesday. “Always when you lead the Pakistan team, especially at this ground, it is an honour for me and I will do my best. If it is on the field as captain or when I’m batting, I will just play my game.”He added: “I think we were not playing up to our mark (in the first Test) but credit to England for the way they are playing. After that we sat to discuss our mistakes and now we are looking forward to the match, believing in ourselves and we will try to play good cricket.”Azam was Pakistan’s top run-scorer in the West Indies, with 193 runs during a drawn two-Test series. He has also enjoyed success in England, with three fifties in six innings while averaging 65.75. Azan Awais may make way if Azam returns at number four, with one of Shan Masood or Abdullah Shafique moving up the order to open.Pakistan could also make changes to their bowling line-up as well this week, with 20-year-old Ubaid Shah able to provide extra speed to an attack lacking in sheer pace in Leeds. That would leave Khurram Shahzad and Mohammad Ali vying for one place, with Mohammad Abbas the most reliable of Pakistan’s pacemen at Headingley and left-arm spinner Ali Usman fresh from his maiden five-wicket haul in Test cricket.   Related Story Source link

 Malaysia said yesterday that it has finalised the first phase of a voluntary repatriation programme that will see some 1,500 Myanmar refugees return home. Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim previously stated that Myanmar had agreed to repatriate 5,000 ethnic Rohingya refugees amid rising tensions with local communities in Malaysia.The first phase takes place on September 29 and involves 1,476 Myanmar nationals who have been identified by the Myanmar government, Malaysia’s Home Ministry said.”The repatriation process will use two Myanmar Navy warships and one hospital ship,” it said.The Ministry said this year about 4,008 individuals, primarily ethnic Rohingya, will be channelled into the Refugee Registration Document (DPP) programme, while 5,000 other individuals will undergo the voluntary repatriation process, as agreed with the Myanmar government.The Ministry said there were 10,388 Myanmar nationals at immigration detention depots as of August 15, though not all can be considered refugees.”The Immigration Department is working with the police to verify the identity, nationality and security background of each detainee, with the process expected to conclude by the fourth quarter of the year,” it said.The Ministry added it will continue to identify individuals who are eligible and willing to return voluntarily.  Related Story Source link
